Hey guys, I'm a potential customer of Impact Soundworks, I've searched forums for my question and I've found nothing; I've got a question regarding tuning. I know that the recordings are by default Drop-A, sampled from a 7-string Guitar.
However is it possible, and if so- how is it possible to record guitar tracks in Drop C? Can I specify the tunings & for the software to only use 6 strings anywhere?
This is a pretty big deciding factor for me, so I thought I'd ask before making any decisions.
Cheers,
Nooby pre-sale question here, Tuning help?

By default, the Shreddage 2 script automatically assigns notes to virtual strings / frets. The exact string & fret used depends on the context. For example the script will try to play notes within a realistic hand position and will of course not trigger two notes on the same string simultaneously. The concept of a 'tuning' is thus not exactly relevant; the script will simply react and assign notes dynamically based on the MIDI data.
If you want to trigger SPECIFIC notes on SPECIFIC strings, each string has a keyswitch that can be used to force notes on certain strings wherever possible. So let's say you play a low E. Normally this might be assigned to the A string. You can use a keyswitch to force the script to play on the E string instead (open).
It is not possible to re-tune a specific string within the script. For example, we sampled the low E string down to E. If you want to play notes lower than that, they are only available on the low A string. That being said, we couldn't really think of many cases where this was necessary. The script engine does a great job of assigning your notes to the strings where they will make the most musical sense (and the upcoming v1.1 update will improve it further), and the string keyswitches give you more granular control.
Does this help? Let me know!

Thankyou for the very informative reply, so what you're saying if I read you correctly is that if I use the Key switches, I could force specific notes to play on specific strings?
Is there any online documentation on how to achieve that?, or a manual to download that I can read up on regarding Shreddage?

Yep, that's what I'm saying. You can read the manual in full here:
http://impactsoundworks.com/docs/ShreddageII_Manual.pdf
In short...
B-2 = Reset string preference
C-1 = Force playing on string 1
C#-1 = String 2
D-1 = String 3
D#-1 = String 4
E-1 = String 5
F-1 = String 6
F#-1 = String 7
You can also set the keyswitch mode to "Latch" (ie. hit the keyswitch of your choice once, and it will remain that way until changed), as opposed to the default mode, where the string preference is engaged as long as the note is held down (and resets as soon as the note is released)
