Digital Pitchbend Controler has no effect?

Hi there,
unfortunately the power adapter of my midi-keyboard has bitten the dust and i just sequenced a solo and effects like portamento are fortunately easy to edit. The only thing that left me wondering was why the Pitchbend Controler doesnt seem to work. Since i cant use the one of my Midi device i tried it with the one next to the digital keyboard of Shreddage 2 and in the end i have spinned it like crazy but no automation data has been written. I also tried various note expression options in Cubase 6 and i am left at a point where i am clueless regarding the recording of the pitchbend cc data via that shreddage 2 pitchbend knob...

Hmm, this sounds like it might be a DAW issue? Shreddage 2 definitely does respond to pitch bend data. Is this working for other Kontakt libs?

Pitchbend is not recorded as automation, but as midi data. You can find it in the piano roll editor, in the same area as velocity. You'll have to bring up its lane to see it. I usually have 2-3 lanes visible, including pitch bend and modulation.

Thx for the replies. Yes i know how to access the CC data in the piano roll editor. I use it quite often. But when recording stuff and using the pitch wheel of the Kontakt 5 Keyboard i hear the pitch live while recording but their automation is not written down in the CC data... I also restartet Cubase 6 several times to no effect...

Hi again. Sorry I didnt understand completely. In Kontakt, try to play with Options -> Engine -> Send Midi to the outside world.Truemas wrote:Thx for the replies. EDIT:
Just tried it out myself, none of the options work.
One thing that does works is to set Kontakt as the midi input of the track, and record the pitchbend that way.

Thank you Baard! I will try this later this day and report if that worked.
What i meant with my last post was that i can hear the effect of the pitchbend when i use the kontakt 5 digital pitchwheel while i use it while recording midi data. The Midi data of the notes and velocity gets recorded but the pitchbend cc-data isnt.

Sounds like this is a Kontakt issue, and not specific to Shreddage 2. I agree it's a PITA.
Could you try Baard's suggested workaround, and also drop a line to NI support to ask whether the pitch-bend wheel on the GUI is *meant* to send MIDI when "Options -> Engine -> Send Midi" is enabled? That could be a bug, or it could be intentional (for whatever reason).
The reason it's excluded may be because pitch bend data has more than 128 steps.

Problem is that VST midi-outputs isn't included in Cubase's "All MIDI Inputs" , and thereby nothing of their output midi data ends up recorded unless one set up a track specifically to do so.
Kontakt outputs what it should in other words, Cubase just needs to know where to find it.

You are great Baard! Once again, thank you! It works now. But i had to try it two times. First he recorded to the CC0 track ( which didnt change anything) after restarting and again choosing the pitchbend track of the kontakt-shreddage audio track, it worked. Thank you!
I ran in another ( minor ) issue. Shreddage presets arent saved. When i did my changes in "engine" and "Legato" and "articulations" i choose "User Presets 1" and click "Save Presets". As long as i stay in the project i can recall it, no problem, but when i restart cubase and i choose "User Presets 1" and click "Load preset" it deselects all articulation fields and sets all velocity values in the "articulations" tab to 1.

Always a pleasure to help a fellow "cubaser"
Glad it works!
As for your other problem I cant help, as I dont have Shreddage 2 myself. Im just the guy who writes .sfz's for ISW's non-kontakt player libs.

Thank you for the help Baard!
Truemas: Yes, this is a known bug with the old preset system. The upcoming free 1.1 update (see the thread about it) fixes this issue by enabling save/load of custom presets anywhere on your hard drive. MUCH better.

Great to hear this zircon. It is just a minor issue for me since i have written down my changes and adjusting them takes maybe 2 minutes but it will be of course more comfortable when it works with patch 1.1.. =)
