Launchpad X - Overdub

Hello,

I’m curious as to why in the “shift” mode when I press overdub track, it creates a new track. I can continue to overdub the track, but can’t seem to turn the overdubbing off. Id prefer it to not create a brand new track. Am I doing something wrong?
