Waldorf Edition: Attack

I've played around with this on my friends computer years ago and now finally bought myself as part of the bundle. This is such a timeless classic. A lot of people underestimate its power just because it came out years ago and now it's long forgotten. But that's ok, because I can use it as my secret weapon.

This plugin is truly inspirational. Just load up any random drum sound, and tweak it in any random way and you're on your way to discovering lots of interesting sounds and surprises. Nice deep kicks, snappy snares, deep toms, crispy white noise and any other percussion you can imagine.

The drum sounds are awesome, but the biggest surprise for me was the discovery that you can also use this plugin as a synth. That's right, you can play melodies, play chords, whatever you want, just as if it was a keyboard. You can make bass sounds with it or you can make pads or nice clean bell sounds, and a whole range of other synth noises inbetween. It's also useful for creating your own sound FX and white noise, swooshes, build ups, etc.

Now to the problems:

* The interface is a little small.
* The knobs are fiddly and I only seem to be able to move them in circular motion (every other plugin today uses vertical motion to adjust knobs)
* Hard to dial in exact numbers because of the above two points. You only want to adjust a little bit of something then BOOM you just moved the knob all the way to the other side, completely destroying the setting you had.

Other than that, it's perfect. If you make electronic music, you can never be bored with a drum machine, and this is by far my favourite drum machine plugin.

The user interface is neat and tidy and very easy to navigate. I love the fact that everything is visible on one screen, and yet it doesn't feel cramped. I like the overall style and look and the middle screen is easy to navigate for the mod-marix also. The keyboard can be hidden with the push of a button to reveal the inbuilt FX.

This synth came out of the blue and just absolutely blew me away. While the presets are nice, I found myself coming up with incredible sounds with very little tweaking in a matter of minutes. The user interface is deceiving as the features LOOK like this is yet another synth with the prerequisite standard features, but as soon as you start playing you 'hear' the magic.
This synth could handle everything I threw at it, solid wide bass, leads, pads, bells, percussion. The filters sound lovely and the bass retains its 'grunt' and depth regardless of how you tweak the filter. The highs have a satisfying 'sizzle' that is very reminiscent of the virus sound, which I am a big fan of. The filters and envelopes seem to have a super sharp attack that is very useful for contemporary dance music, sharp leads and percussive sounds. This synth has some real balls and is capable of generating some incredibly rich sounds while only using minimal CPU.

In terms of features, there's a nice mod matrix and some capable inbuilt FX, the rest is comparable to the competition. What really impressed me is the different filter types and the sharp envelopes. If you're looking for a synth with millions of tweakable parts, this is not it. But the features that it does have work beautifully and to be honest, is all you really need. I think anything more would be overkill and would just add unnecessary complications.

The documentation is well written and to the point. I've only referred to it once or twice so far as the synth is quite straight forward.

The presets are nice, there's some good variety here that shows off the different kinds of sounds you can get but they may not be the best examples of what this synth can do. I think of them as good starting points rather than a showcase. There's some good variety but nothing that really blew me away until I started tweaking with them.

Haven't had to deal with support yet but the purchase was quick and painless and there's quite an active forum.

I think the value of money is excellent. This synth has a cutting edge sound and while it lacks a massive amount of features, it makes up for it with amazing sound, and low CPU use.

I'm using it with Logic Express and haven't had any bugs or crashes yet.

I discovered this effect by accident and it has been a bit of a secret weapon of mine for about 5 months now. Just when i was ready to give up on waiting for an original effect to come along, i discovered this thing. The version i have is free though i believe years ago people paid for this? I cant believe thats its free?!!! It's insane! Glitch is one of those rarities in life when you think that something is simply too good to be true. This effect can do so many things so well and so simply thats its mindboggling.

Every time i use thins thing i end up with random effects that sound so damn cool and original. It's dead easy to use, it has a cool randomise feature, lots of knows to tweak, almost a limitless array of variables so something original is just around the corner. In a world where we're inundates with literally hundreds of effects that do the same thing (eqs, compressors, delays, etc) this thing is a welcome breath of fresh air! It is suitable for almost any type of electronic music to inject a bit of originality into your tracks. Its also a great time saver because the sound effect that you can achieve within SECONDS with this sound like they took HOURS to program.

If you lay these stutter and weird effects over your track for a few seconds people who hear it will think you just spent the last week hunched over a computer cutting and slicing things, whereas you didnt, you used glitch! I simply cant praise thins enough.. i love it and will forever love it. The interface is busy but cool. The sound quality is excellent. One word.. perfect!!!
