I'm about to record the vocals of a local artist, and he wants a distortion effect on his voice similar to (exactly like) the effect used on Drake's voice in the song We'll Be Fine in the chorus.
Much help would be appreciated. OH! I forgot to mention, I would like a VST (free if possible) for this. I own Acoustica Mixcraft and would like to use a free VST within that.
approximately 1:08 into the song is the first example.

from here, the effect on the drake track sounds kind of 'bitcrusher-ish'.
maybe timemachine from toneboosters could do something similar: http://www.toneboosters.com/tb-timemachine/

auto-tune related effect.
Free plug-ins for Windows, MacOS and Linux. Xhip Synthesizer v8.0 and Xhip Effects Bundle v6.7.
