Hey, everyone. So right now, I'm doing stuff for which I'll want a pitch shifter that allows me to use an envelope. (Btw, I mean NOT an ADSR env, but like, one where you modulate a MIDI track's pitch, etc. hopefully everyone understands.) Anyone know where I'd find one (Free???) ? Thanks!

Any envelope is an ADSR, that's the parameters, not what the envelope modifies. Not sure if you want a MIDI effect pitch envelope(never heard of that) or an audio effect, a pitch shifter with an envelope.

If it's the 2nd one I made this for Windows- Crazy Larry, it has 2 triggering modes, MIDI or audio, audio is designed for guitar with 2 retriggering modes, for clean or distorted guitar.

Good luck finding a plugin that gets you some useable results, I tried many and didn't find one that I like. Waves Transform bundle is awesome but will crash your DAW when using automation, not exactly free either.

Other than plugins, the only DAW's I'm aware of supporting good realtime pitchbend automation on audio tracks are Sony ACID and Propellerheads Record.

Reaper has a pitch-shift envelope, I believe.

yeah isn't that called pitchbend?

what are you trying to shift? audio tracks?

couldn't you just automate a pitch shift effect?

most pitch shifters are crap though. you'd probably want to process the effect and save the result because really good quality shifters won't run in real time.

even then, they're still crap. you'd be best off to pitch everything first if ever possible.

I'd recommend you to put a pitch shifter on the bus of the MIDI track and then you can automate it. A normal VST works only with audio input, not with MIDI - there are some MIDI VST of course, but I don't know any with a pitch shifter.

Automating the pitch bend would be an alternative, too.

If you want a repeating (pitch shifting) pattern, then the MIDI Shaper from the Cableguys would help you. For example, you could assign a MIDI Control # (by using MIDI Learn) to the pitch parameter of your synthesizer and then you can draw an envelope in the MIDI Shaper. 8)

Not free - but might do what you want:

You're not saying how you intend to use it though, so I'm not sure.

ADSR on pitch is common in synths and samplers.

If to use it as an effect, you might import the tracks audio for parts you want to mess with into a sampler.

Map the clip over the keyboard, and use ADSR's to make it sound like you want. Then you can affect it both through midi, with pitchbends and make pitch attacks in different ways with each keydown.

Yes, Reaper has a very nice pitch-shifter audio plugin. You can control it with automation, an lfo, an envelope follower, etc. Highly recommended.
