And I'm not talking about the really clubby 'bigroom' vomit that's so popular right now. Rather, I'm looking for a place big on deep house, disco, funk, soul, and all that.
Anyone know of one? Hopefully one with some traffic...
Reason being that I want to talk about sample- and loop-oriented production styles, where record digging and break-cutting and old vinyl sources are a big deal. But I don't think KVR's the place. I dunno, maybe I'm wrong, maybe there's some classic house-heads still swimming these waters that I'm just not aware of? It'd be a welcome relief from the usual Alesso/Avicci/Skrillex/Deadmau5/Bennassi rotation.

you have to remember that your definition of 'house' is going to appear to someone else just like how you feel about skrillex when they define house differently.
loop (break) oriented? i guess you're referring to the uk scene in the early 90s. anyway it's a crazy way to try to define house because virtually every other genre is loop-based too.
plus, the only loops i hear in the best house i've heard tend to be the 909 patterns or similar.

To clarify, perhaps unnecessarily, when I say loop and sample-oriented, . I know that all electronic dance styles are loop-oriented, from a certain definition, but hopefully that example will illustrate the difference in how it gets used.
I haven't! Thanks, Cryo.

Are you seriously looking for a music forum or just more pictures of girls kissing?MOK19 wrote: To clarify, perhaps unnecessarily, when I say loop and sample-oriented,
This space has been unintentionally left blank.

hm. well i'm sure there is some goofy sub-genre name for that. late-80s infomercial house? the artist's name must be "jucimatic 9000".MOK19 wrote:To clarify, perhaps unnecessarily, when I say loop and sample-oriented, This is sorta what I mean.
that makes it kind of difficult.
i think what you mean is more doing raw vinyl loops and mixing that with phrases and patterns, sampled or no. that's a lot closer to the studio version of turntablism then isn't it?

Yeah, that picture made me cringe too. But I didn't want to take forever looking for a rough, offhand example.JJBiener wrote:a music forum or just more pictures of girls kissing?
Ehhhh not really, no.aciddose wrote:hm. well i'm sure there is some goofy sub-genre name for that. late-80s infomercial house? the artist's name must be "jucimatic 9000".MOK19 wrote:To clarify, perhaps unnecessarily, when I say loop and sample-oriented, This is sorta what I mean.

Though the material was largely lifted from vinyl(I assume), it's been extensively worked on. There's about as much commonality between this & turntablism as a peach and a pickup truck. And theres varying degrees; perhaps I just want a little bit of those sorts of loops, and I'll synth-up the rest myself.
As for the music, it fits roughly in the nu-disco umbrella, and is pretty mainstream stuff, immensely popular. It's not particularly niche nor uncommon. But really it's kinda just a minor twist and re-marketing of deep house or funky house or disco house; the same artistic and production customs and sensibilities apply, whether its ~2000's house or this stuff.
That's why I'm looking for a house community oriented toward funk and soul, rather than bigroom. All the tricks and sensibilities are pretty much the same within that end of house, but different from the shitroom stuff. And there's an old, continuing culture behind chicago house sampling and funk/soul influences. I feel like I could use an extra dose of it.

Well I wasn't, I'm not a homophobe. And having grown up in a city where I routinely saw girls beat the shit out of each other I can easily say I would prefer to see them kissing each other.

With out any reference to something, so found that quote to be the offensive thing. Are you seriously looking for a music forum or just more pictures of girls kissing?
Once unblocked, seeing the pic...made me understand the quotes reference, and not understand it, and also the pics similarity to many of the photos in my favorites folder. Maybe can do a collage and offer it to JJ as a xmas gift.
