So, I was in a thread about the Tenori-On on another forum and I was about to suggest Atomic when I found out what happened to Algomusic. So sad. Anyway, I'm assuming that's gone forever, but it made me think that it would be nice to create a thread where we talk about sequencer applications that do interesting things or have unique interfaces. One that comes to mind is the sequencer in Native Instruments Reaktor's Newscool.

Big fan of that, I've made a few-the guis are not interesting, so if you want to skip-
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/347 ... Dagger.rar-this one plays a riff, then holds a note. It was in CM mag at one point.
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/347 ... nTouch.rar-this one shifts between 2 clocked rates, for a bad human feel
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/347 ... mSense.rar-this one is actually a chord generator in which the notes are delayed

Oh yeah, forgot about that one. Very cool and I love the audio engine too.DJMashbot wrote:You can use audio damage's Axon as a sequencer, with fairly interesting results.

The Defective Records sequencers are great. I particularly like Cyclic.
I wish there was a sequencer sequencer plug-in like Rene but you would really need a controller like a Launch Pad to play it.

Tonecarvers Nova3 generative sequencer is a lot of fun, I think. Windows only, 32 and 64-bit VST. Just mentioned while I spent too long writing this and stuff (after which I first decided not to post but then suddenly changed my mind), but I'll offer some of screencaps...
An attempt at a tip for starting out simple: Shorten the "Rows" (or "Cols") to 3 and start out with no obstacles and you can have arpeggiator-like patterns with variations and slight chaos by way of "note probability" and "wobble" and the number of so-called rovers, then build from that as you please if this sort of thing appeals to you. The obstacles are pretty well documented in a txt file.
Alternative approach: throw a bunch of stuff in there and try to make sense of it as you go along...

There are a number of others in Reaktor - Spiral, Algorythm and Node. There are lots more but those of the ones that I got the most out of.

GUIs are resizable too which makes them great on a touch screen, makes them more immediate than trying to midi map to a controller or using a mousejustin3am wrote:The Defective Records sequencers are great. I particularly like Cyclic.
The new faderfox SC4 is very reminiscent of the Roland system 100 which the M-185 is based on.
Might have to get one for myself for chrimbo

It isn't out yet, but the new modular sequencer from Loomer, which will not be named Epoch, looks to be rather incredible.

A Rene emulator would be awesome. It's my favorite sequencer.justin3am wrote:The Defective Records sequencers are great. I particularly like Cyclic.

Also in the modular world, you can get a whole lot of mileage just from a couple of LFOs and some logic gates.
