Recently i was again interested in Piano libraries and emulations and the vast majority of sample libraries and modeld pianos was quite overwhelming.
It was hard to get an actual overview and find a list with what is currently available and also on which Pianos those libraries are based.

So after a little research i made a list that is sorted by manufaturer and model name (if possible) and the available libraries or modeled pianos listed below them.
It is quite obvious that the 3 major Pianos used in those are: Steinway Model D (the most by far!!), Yamaha C7 and Bösendorfer 290. Fazioli Pianos seem to get more popular too recently.

FWIW i did not incude Upright Pianos or E-Pianos or this would becopme endless...

For those who are interested in the Pianos i own myself at the moment could have a look/listen at the audio demos i posted after the llist shown below.

Audio demos and a MIDI file of other KVR members are posted below too, after the list and my own demos.

UPDATE:
Audio demos of different pianos posted by KVR members:

- my own audio demos from pianos i currently own:
Ingonator wrote:For both testing the Imperfect Samples Fazioli Ebony Basic i just bought and also to compare it two of my other libraries (XLN Addictive Keys Studio Grand which is based on a Steinway Model D and NI Alicia's Keys which is based on a Yamaha C3 Neo) i used a collection of 10 MIDI files (not recorded by myself !!) to render tracks wit those 3 pianos.

The tracks/demos were done without built-in effects and as external effetcs moderate amounts of Waves H-Comp compressor and a Lexicon MXR Native reverb were used. The XLN Studio Grand was used with the close tube mic position. The Basic version of the Fazioli Ebpny has 1 mic position, 8 velocity layers and 7 GB of size (uncompressed). No EQ has been used (no built-in and also no external).

Here are the audio demos (10 tracks for each piano):
II created the same 10 audio demos with 6 additional pianos which are: NI The Grandeur, 4Front True Pianos Atlantis module, Arturia Piano V (modified preset), Pianoteq 5 standard demo Model B, Garritan authorized Steinway Basic Edition and the free Salamander Piano (= Yamaha C5).
The only built-in FX used was the EQ with Piano V (only the high s boosted a bit), with all others the built-in FXs were off and no EQ used for those. External FXs used (same FXs and settings for all demos) were moderate amounts of Waves H-Comp compressor and Lexicon MXR Native reverb. If certain demo sound like there is additional reverb this comes from the piano itself.
Note: I had owned a license for TruePianos since 2008, long before i got the other 5 pianos used here

Here are the audio demos (10 tracks for each piano), the first 3 pianos were already posted earlier:

Sampletekk pianos are not unknown, but the information is somewhat hidden.

- Sampletekk White Grand
is the same as
- Sampletekk Blue Grand
"The great instrument used for the White Grand and White Sister, a large Malmsjo Grand, a 100 year old beauty, was here used to create their more soft spoken sister."
http://www.sampletekk.com/grand-pianos&product_id=198
so is the White Sister http://www.sampletekk.com/grand-pianos&product_id=186

BTW I thought about adding Pianos included with hosts/DAWs but decided not to add host specific plugins here.
Also somethng like e.g. Pianos in the Kontakt factory libary or other big ROMplers are not included.

This one is missing...

Toontrack's EZKeys Studio Grand is based on the Steinway Model B.

Great list, thanks. For anyone on an extreme budget, 4~Front's free piano isn't a bad start, especially with a good reverb added on.

4Front TruePianos is alraedy in the list (and at moment i still own it myself while it is more or less replaced by others...).

I did not want to also include Upright Pianos in the list (as mentioned in the OP) but here is a link for the free 4Front Piano:

If I had the time, I'd really like to blow this list out to a table that includes features. So columns for common features like (beyond the piano type itself of course):

1. Library size
2. Sympathetic Resonance modelling Y/N?
3. Una Corda Y/N?
4. Half-Pedalling Y/N?
5. Pedal Noise Y/N?
6. Hammer Noise Y/N?
7. # of microphone positions

...I'm at the point where I'd prefer not to buy a sample library that doesn't include a few microphone positions since each mix/mood will call for a different sound. I'd trade in all my existing piano libraries for one really good sounding Stienway library and one really good Upright library with a few microphone positions. Preferably recorded in a studio and not a concert hall.

Nice List! I want to propose Air Music Mini Grand, though it seems to model several styles of grand pianos.

I just added that to "Generic Pianos" as i did not find specfic piano names of real pianos used for the 7 models.

This would inded be nice but involve an even bigger amount of work. Anyway i added a link for most pianos for more infromatiions.
Such list that you propose would not make much sense in the current list at the OP here as it would make it insanely long but maybe in an Excel sheet.

Anyway with the list and the coresponding links there would be at least an option to do that.

Another option would be to also list all acoustic Upright pianos and again that would take a while and the list of those should be quite long too (while maybe not as many as the grand pianos). Anyway this should be more simply then doing a list of all those specs for all pianos.

From the available C7, which ones do you know well and is recommendable? (cheap, please).

I tried the PIano1, but don't like the sound.

http://www.productionvoices.com/product ... -piano-le/ is a C3, and is almost what I want, but there's something missing.
