Earlier in the year some of you may remember we teased something we were working on. Well today we are going live with the beta and need your help to test it!

Atlas is a sampler powered with Artificial Intelligence. You can analyze your own sample libraries (as many as you want) and create a visual map showing all the samples in one place. The AI finds all the samples and figures out their type and character and arranges them based on how they sound. There is a drum kit where if you press 'New Kit', Atlas will instantly generate a kit with one of each drum type. Couple that with some genre based starter MIDI clips, you can create unique drums and loops in seconds using your own samples.

We need your help to see if it all works! Very keen to hear your feature requests, experiences and any issues so we can fix them before launch date.

Watch the preview video and grab the beta here

Also I'll be on hand to answer questions here too!

Looks very interesting for me!
Thank‘s, have to check this out later.

Yes interesting idea.

This seems interesting

Have to agree. This is a good idea. Interested :)

Neat, working great here. The kit generation seems quite nice so far. I've liked
everything it has suggested. :tu:

Seemingly quite happy in Reason 10 and Bitwig 2...

*Testing the analysis on a 20GB mixed library currently.

When selecting 'new kit', do the drum pads change type of sound. Ie, say the first pad is a kick, will it only cycle through 'potentialy' other kicks. I want to be sure that each part of the drum midi groove (kick, hats, etc) will correspond exactly to the new sample being populated in each new kit.

If so, you have a winner. Reminds of the randomize feature within Nerve, without the complexity or need to actually link folders to type (kick, hats), then randomize. It randomizes within the folder. This cuts out that tedious step.

Almost the same with MDrummer.

What I'm interested in would be randomization across several types of percussion (let's say anything besides kicks and toms), probably as an option.

Anyway, will test this interesting approach of Algonaut.

There seems to be a set order for the kit pieces. This UI and workflow beg for
a few lanes along the sides usable for step sequencing :D

So it took about 20 mins to go through my 20 GB sample folder(which was completely
unorganized). It picked out all the drum samples and laid the out with excellent
accuracy from what I can see.

*All in the background while I was sequencing it in Reason, never skipped a beat.

Pretty slick...

Does it mean it dropped sounds that are not "percussion", pekbro?

I'm trying myself but since I've loaded the puppy with 70gig of all kinds of samples I have to wait... :D

For the most part yes, it seems concerned only with percussion. It also seems
to ignore multiple velocity samples. Everything chosen seems to be unique.
Its still pretty cool, now I can generate kits from the map on the fly.

Post

Thx, my map just finished, too, and it is indeed cool! :-)

Had a drum loop in the "other" sound tab and also vocal samples, so I assume it is not only the length and frequency characteristics that's used for selection. We'll see how it turns out in the long run.

edit:
------------
There are already feature requests here:

- Soloing sounds (not just muting like now)
- Saving kit

Needs fixing: - My lib is so large that I can't see all drum types in the map (s. screenshot). Click+drag moves the map. Sorry for the alarm... ;)

Just addressing a couple things that have come up! Firstly awesome praise! we're stoked your liking it so far!

Note that Atlas will not mess up your audio files.

New kit will depend on whats in the slots. If it's empty, yes there is an order it defaults to. But if you choose your own categories for each slot, it takes that into account and will just choose another 'kick' or 'snare' appropriately.

During analysis it will not include in the map things that are not percussion shots like loops, fx (and short musical one-shots if you tick the setting during analysis). Atlas is intended for making beats essentially.

So on record, we plan to release Atlas very soon as is, however do VERY rapid updates with new features. Most of the hard work has been in the AI etc but the features you guys are suggesting are comparably easy. So yeah, expect saving kits, solo, advanced controls etc to be coming very soon.

Atlas is just the start of our technology, so expect more cool stuff soon!

Post

Thx, Tim, sounds good. :-)

May I leave another feature request?

Please make it somehow possible to "forget" a certain single sound instead of avoiding the whole type of a sound. So maybe extend the option like this: "LIKE/DISLIKE/REJECT" (or pack it into a settings menu). I'd rather drop a single sound than dislike the whole "family". After all one of the unique features is the ability to throw anything inside Atlas without worrying about its nature or prior organisation of sounds. That'd help us chaotic guys. :borg:
