UJAM STRIIIINGS

Really great sounding plugin, based on samples, and semi-automatic, like the other UJAM plugins. However, I wonder how usable it really is, say for string sections on ordinary pop songs rather than cinematic textures etc.
Any opinions? It appeals to me, as I wouldn't have to bother about minute changes to string sections, just enter chords, style and let it do it's thing. Basically, a time-saver (or so I hope as far as normal music tracks are concerned).
Note that it's currently on sale for 99 dollars, until midnight or so, after which it will be 169 (and downloadable). There is no discount at JRRshop or so, but at Audiodeluxe 10 dollars is saved as "deluxecash" for future purchases.

Actually, I found two more videos from UJAM. It's impressive to see how fast they get results. 99 dollars hurt a bit, but hey! After all, I didn't spend more than a few bucks (on what - I can't remember
) on Black Friday.

It seems like it’s meant to add strings to productions for enhancement, rather than composing orchestral pieces from scratch. Which in that case there would be a good use for it, and would be faster than doing that with orchestral libraries and articulations.

Precisely. I think it looks and sounds really cool, and is a tool that would actually encourage me to use strings where I might 'wish to', but tend to overlook/ignore that possibility otherwise, as it is basically over-my-skill-set-head to do it well, or at least 'confidently'. They say it's the first of several orchestral plugins. I bought it on saleATS wrote: Mon Dec 07, 2020 3:53 am I learned with Ujam to WAIT, it will be cheaper at some point than 99.

This looks very similar to the kinds of Kontakt instruments Heavyocity does, particularly NOVO strings and NOVO Essentials. You can get NOVO Essentials for $60 at the moment but it is quite restricted in the number of different phrases/riffs you get. It's hard to tell form the videos I've seen if this is any better but it seems to be different enough that I am definitely interested in it and I'd be happy to pay $120 for it, too.

Novo Rhythmic Textures might be closest when looked technically, but this seem to have vibe of the orchestral complete presets.BONES wrote: Tue Dec 08, 2020 1:54 am This looks very similar to the kinds of Kontakt instruments Heavyocity does, particularly NOVO strings and NOVO Essentials. I have a feeling this will be way more successful with mainstream music rather than soundtracks. The more synth-like sounds are amazing.

I'm not sure how a 22 minute video is a "quick" look, but OK, whatever. I'd rather install it and spend 22 minutes checking it out for myself. Which I've just done. I wasn't too sure how I felt about it until I got to the "Dark" preset category. Then I bought it. It's pretty damned awesome and massively versatile. Initially I thought it was a little bright and happy, kind of like a film score from a 1950s family Western, but then I hit a few interesting twists, then the Dark stuff, which is really interesting. And "Dark" is only about one-third of the way through the presets so it can only get better.
Best of all, I think this will complement NOVO Essentials quite well. It sounds different and has very different features, so if you've got another $60 to spend, I'd get both while they're cheap.

an impressive plugin; it sounds great, has lots of great presets to start with; great control options... am totally inspired. i hate the name (one shouldn't have to count to make sure they typed in the right amount of 'i's), but a non-issue, really. even the GUI is good, simple. bought!

Yes, it's a stupid name. I guess the follow-ups will be brass, drums (timpani) and woodwinds, but the naming schedule must change:fisherKing wrote: Tue Dec 08, 2020 10:19 pm i hate the name (one shouldn't have to count to make sure they typed in the right amount of 'i's
you cannot really call it
BRAAAAAAAAAAS
and you cannot call it
BRASSSSSSSS
Well, they should have thought of this problem before they ended up with STRIIIINGS!

The four "i"s are clearly meant to represent the four strings on a violin or cello. They'll need to think of something equally symbolic for the others.
