As one can see in the video, the Move is unstable if you press a pad. I am looking for an alternative where a Launchpad X remains stable when you press pads with your fingers.
I will be using the Stage Master Boom Cymbal Stand HC43BWN, recommended by the Drumbeam developers. It's what they use for the Drumbeam demos and it's very stable. It has a 25.4mm diameter base section tubing.
The question is how to attach the Launchpad there. I was expecting to find precedents online but to my surprise I wasn't able to find anything.
There are plenty of tablet holders (with grips) but many cannot hold and grip a device as big and thick as a Launchpad X. In general, they are designed to hold a device that you look at and eventually tap lightly with a finger. They offer infinite positions and orientations, but for someone who just wants to place Launchpad horizontally these are just factors prone to cause instability.
I have also looked at trays, both "accessory trays" for drummers and generic "laptop trays". Here too there are many options discarded because the tray isn't big enough. And in general many are designed to be a surface just to leave objects or a laptop that at most you type a few keys lightly. I wonder how stable the average tray will be when pressing pads in the top left and top right columns. Also many trays are just flat, or have a stop only at the bottom, and it would be good to have stops on the sides as well to keep the Launchpad in place.
Another factor to consider is that the Launchpad must be as close to the stand as possible. If the arm is too long, then I wonder how stable will be the cymbal stand when pressing the bottom row pads.
Another factor to consider is metal vs plastic, which can be found in all combination in these types of products.
At this point I'm thinking that perhaps I shouldn't be looking at music-specific accessories and look at ways to have a solid bar with a solid tray on top, attached... solidly to each other without moving parts. And then get a solid clamp to attach the bar to the cymbal stand. OR maybe find a bar+clamp in the catalogs for drummers (because this is a generic use case) and then find a way to fix a tray on top of that bar... (((And for some reason my brain keeps telling me "VESA mount" even if I'm not seeing an evident connection there, although it is indeed another potential route to explore))).
I'm surely overthinking this "problem" but, well, overthinking is part of the joy in certain hobbies.
