Just curious, does anyone else here deal with single sided deafness? I lost all hearing in my left ear a few months ago, have gone though a time of being bummed out about it, gave up music, and am now just accepting it, getting back into the tune-making and trying to make the best of it. (I suppose Brian Wilson and Paul Stanley did okay with SSD so there's hope :) )

I've been to an audiologist and tried a couple of different hearing aids but nothing is helping. My hearing loss is in the -100 to -120 db range and I developed a fairly strong tinnitus when the hearing went out.

Anyone else dealing with this? Any tips for music making? I have stereo analyzers and can use them fairly well, which helps. I mix in mono now to get most of the work done then switch to stereo and swap left/right channels to make sure there aren't any glaring hidden problems. No way to detect subtle phase issues between L/R though .. correlation meters only go far.

I'll still make music because that is just who I am and what I do, so maybe its just a matter of time to adjust to the new workflow .... and I'm very grateful for having the other ear in excellent working condition.

I'm gutted to read that new ToneCarver, I have not had problems anywhere like your own and wouldn't even wish it on any person I can not stand. I've had/have issues with my ears and sinuses when stressed which cause the inside and some of the outside of my ears to go manky (for want of a better way of describing it), Where they get crusty and then scab over sort of yet weep ear juice plus some blood. I have no control when it comes on and I have seen people about it with no real answers, The first time anti biotics cleared it up but more so my infected sinuses than the ear part which happened to dry up about the same time

It is truly bizarre the human body and equally fascinating. It is good to see you in seemingly high-ish spirit even if that isn't how you're truly feeling

I think what you have said above is a good bet/way to set out and I would add if possible get a close friend that is into or works with/on their own stuff but is familiar with yourself and your works to both lend you their ears now and again to check plus subjective opinion on the stereo imaging. I'm sure a top bloke like yourself knows at the very least one person whom could fill that role for you

I would not stop doing what I do either if something did or does go wrong further down the line, I make my own stuff as purely an outlet for me as a messed up yet still cathartic thing where I get rid of a heck of a lot of my negative energy, aggression and anger with whatever may be on my mind, Gnawing away at it

Truly I wish that everything falls into place with your semi-newish setup and you settle into your stride, Once again it is refreshing to see such a positive outlook/attitude when this sort of thing would, could and probably has sank other people with less character, determination and mindset you're packing, All the very best :tu:

I'm sorry that you have this impairment. Biggest thing that comes to mind is the necessity to switch between mono, left, and right channels quickly. I would be working mostly in mono and then check sides occasionally.

Lots of drummers have temporarily or permanently lost an arm and still went forward. Sometimes a limitation actually allows for creativity and focus.
