Saw that. If one really only wanted the/a buss compressor, what would be a good alternative?

The Glue?
IK's buss comp?

Post

I'd wish I had the money. But first I need to buy my other Waves stuff a second time, for the second computer :(

But I guess it won't be last time that Waves has a sale ;)

It's good, but do you really need another ssl clone if you already have the Glue or the IK's buss?

Nowadays i use slate vbc for buss compressor. Every slate plugin it have that character that i like.

The glue is more subtle, but it works if you like clean compression.

IK is almost like vbc for me, they also have their own character.

I ask because I don't have sort of SSL-clone, and I don't have the $$$ now to buy the Waves bundle.

In the e-mail I got, the price kinda appeared like $49 with the 2 truncated somehow so I didn't saw 249.
Even if they were 49 (pretty fair deal if that was the case, but I already have the NI Solid Series) I wouldn't get them since they are grossly overpriced to begin with.

My guess is that of the general opinions on this site those two would come top, or there abouts.

I have the Glue in Live 9 and also own Slate VBC, and have tried the waves, IK and UAD.

It has to be said even as new products have come over the years The Glue has retained it's status. One thing I've found with the Glue, but haven't seen it mentioned anyway so it prob just me, is that its not as forgiving as are other emulations, if that makes any sense. It's quite sensitive to the material and what settings you have compared to the alternatives I've tried. That's not intended as a criticism of it.

Anyway, my point being that try both and I'm sure (if you like the SSL bus comp thing) you'll like either or both of them.

Each of these SSL emulations has its own sonic character. Which one is "best" is a matter of taste and how well it fits your own material and workflow. They also vary in their system resource usage. Bottom line: don't rely on recommendations to determine what will work best for you; demo them yourself!

The Waves SSL package does deserve an extensive demo at this price, IMHO. To my ears, it helps impart a snap and punch that other emulations may not match, and works especially well for rock/pop styles. Others may sound better on individual tracks in isolation, but the Waves plugs seem to help mixes gel together IME. If it matters to you, they've been used successfully by pros on commercial tracks for many years, but as always, YMMV. Good luck!

Cheers,
Eddie

It's a bummer you missed out on the IK group-buy, I picked up their SSL clone then, and I love it.

I highly recommend the DCAM FreeComp tho, it's a free(obviously) SSL emulation. The release time is a little weird to me, but used subtly on the the mixbuss, it's great.

Can't speak of any others tho.

I was always interested in these but Theo talked me out of it :hihi: :ud:

I am forever going to kick myself that I missed out on that group buy. I'd have solved my compressors problem all in one fell swoop (would've gotten a equivalents to the SSL buss comp, 1176, 2A, 3A, and one other.)
