Video of my issue-

I have a Steinberg ur 44 (just got friday)/cubase 7.5 demo (testing to see if I will buy). Let s say you have the loop selector at a four bar loop (starting at bar one). When the time bar moves I have it starting at bar one. For whatever reason it misses the first kick and I have to hit quantize and then it lines up with bar one. I notice that the midi file records before bar one. When I drag over the midi file I see empty space in the midi file before bar one. So then I either have to it quantize whether drums or a synth so it lines up with bar one or I notice I have to drag the midi over (where I see empy space). It looks like it starts before before bar one.

So with this problem, I switched to my NI interface to test with cubase 7 and the same thing. If I use the virtual keyboard it doesn't do that. I have switched usb cables, turned on timestamp, changed project set-up. I can't figure this out and it's annoying. Any advice is appreciated. So if this continues I was thinking of selling this interface and just switching back to maschine 2.0/Studio One. I attached a video. Thanks.

My PC
-Windows 7 (Latest Update)
-16 GB of RAM
-3.6 ghz
-Cubase 7.5 demo/ Steinberg UR 44 interface (latest updates)
plugins used halionsonic 2, retorlogue etc.

You ran into a known bug. Though I can't remember who on KVR had it. Was it hibidy? And I also don't know if it was fixed by now with a maintenance update. Thankfully, this is one of the rare issues that doesn't affect my Cubase/workflow.

Furthermore... the "record before bar 1" phenomenon could be various things. How did you set up the recording mode?
Did you try it at a different bar (for example bar 2 or 3)?

The recording modes changed a bit with C7... so this could be the culprit.

Thanks for the reply. What record modes do you mean? I'm going to wait to see what tech support says. Any other suggestions? Thx

Before it was Loop and Stack, Cubase 7 introduced a couple of new modes.

Wouldn't count on the tech support. Chances are they're like "sorry... can't reproduce this". Also keep in mind, the demo is not on 7.5.20 IIRC, but an earlier version. If the bug was addressed (I remember that it was to a certain extend, though don't nail me on it - there is a user on KVR that had this issue!), then it's among the more recent updates.

Other suggestions are:
none... you might need to use a maintenance update. And I don't know if this is possible with the demo. Then again, the demo is a 30-day trial of the full version. So... it's worth a try to check out maintenance .5.20

Hello,

Please make sure you have the latest maintenance update installed.
Even if it is a trial version you will be able to update it.
What happens when you start the recording from bar 2?
Perhaps you have "Precount/click" on the transport bar activated or the Pre Roll.

It is weird. Everyone has it. I don't know if they consider it a feature or not. I think it is there "just in case" you actually play a note prior to the track actually starting. In other sequencers, with a count in, NOTHING gets recorded and if you miss the first beat of the first bar, you lose any MIDI data that you might have wanted there.

So I believe it must be considered a feature. I wish you could disable it. Sometimes it is useful. Mostly it is a pain.

hi, Maybe I don't understand the problem, but as described I am not at all seeing it in the video....... the video just sounds like a precount of one.

If it is indeed missing the first beat of the kick, the first thing I would try to see is if the vsti that is playing the kick has Asio-Guard on and if it does, take it off.

I don't think this is caused by the ASIO-Guard.
ASIO-Guard usually affects playback of sampled base VSTi.
Are you recording with the click on?
It only adds the note if you play way before the first bar.
You can avoid this if you play right on time, or by starting your recordings always on bar 2.

EDITED: Added a couple of lines.
