They're skipping Cubase 11.5 and releasing v12 in 2022.

How odd, the web page says the same thing twice, has it been hacked ?

It's strange that they let that slip through. Hopefully we will get more information soon. Hackers are usually motivated by money rather than just playing pranks on people.

So, probably 12 months of speculations, lists of hopes and worries.

I guess that if they would want to release it early 2022 then it would be 11.5. 12 sounds like something that will come 2 years after the previous full version was released. I hope I'm wrong but I don't expect miracles and rainbow unicrons ;)

Hmm... could be an indication that they already use their new authorization system with Cubase 12. Otherwise I don't see a reason for - a later release date; skipping a paid .5 upgrade.

Bet they charge more for the 11 to 12 upgrade then. I mean, more than for a .5 upgrade.

Probably new authorization, native M1 support etc couldn't make the deadline for 11.5 so they just skip it.
Or maybe Steinberg will be nice to us and Cubase 11.5 will be a free upgrade and in a few months we will get 12 :)

No reason eh? It's pretty obvious..

Owners of "certain new laptops" are realizing they're up a certain creek without a paddle, and have started to contact Steinberg asking them "WTF? When.. ". This is their response.. And no .5 because they simply don't have time to do it and get a native version out ASAP too. Thus it's skipped.

That’s weird because PreSonus got a fully M1 native Studio One out already and it was just one part of a free .1 update.
THIS MUSIC HAS BEEN MIXED TO BE PLAYED LOUD SO TURN IT UP

Looks like the price of Cubase has gone up a bit. Anyone else think so?

Also, Best Service has removed "11" from the titles, which probably means the official website should be ready with more information shortly. https://www.bestservice.com/steinberg.html or maybe it was the same before, not able to recall.

Clicking on the "licensing info" button goes to the home page right now (wip I guess), but it probably indicates that it will be new licensing system, as chk071 pointed out above.

Hmm, I’ll still wait a bit until the fog clears up before I’ll register my C11 version fro, the summer sale…

I would bet that this is the reason. It's better to skip a version and release later than release lackluster one (like RX9 for example).
I'm pretty sure that compatibility took priority and features are still (or will be) in development.
I don't expect anything less than full price for the full version upgrade ;)

Well, it's only weird if you actually expected any better from Yamaha at this point..

They're not even performing proper basic testing on a lot of their stuff (Still can't get over the HALion preset crashing bug they'd have noticed if they'd used the bloody thing for literally two minutes)

It's just a number. A major version update looks better when you have to much major new stuff, like a new authorization system, and M1 support.

If they start the grace period now, it can only be a matter of a few months.

Be assured that they wouldn't have done that, if a new version was coming so soon. My Studio One 4.6 hasn't seen any update since they released version 5.

Sticking with no M1 support for (minimum) 2 years looks a bit shitty.

I'm no developer but Cubase is how much older than Studio One? My guess is that it's just harder to update all that legacy code for the M1. But maybe that's not even the hold up. Maybe they're just moving to a 1.5 year development cycle with costlier full-version upgrades to bring in more revenue. They could still be working on the Remote Control API and upgrade, or HiDPI, or maybe all of that stuff.

Who knows? Not us.
