Looking for a very basic, pleasant to use freeware synth

All I need is something that will install on Windows, has at least two oscillators - each with all the basic waveforms, a filter that does LP @ 24dB & 12dB and preferably some kind of HP, at least one standard LFO, standard envelopes, and basically the other stuff you'd expect from a simple subtractive synth. Sync, etc.

Also freeware, resizable (or fairly large if not), and nice to use / not unpleasant to look at.

With patch storage.

I mean, if this can't be found for free, I'll pay a small amount, sure. But this is just for practice, nothing more.

You can find what you're looking for for free without problem. Two propositions come to my mind:
  • Synth1 - old freeware classic, ticks all your boxes except for the GUI - it's not resizeable and not really large. Enormous amount of patches available.
  • u-he TyrellN6 - sounds great, I think also does everythink from your list (and more) and I think it's gui is resizeable like all u-he plugins. For sure it's skinnable. Very versatile synth.
There are more of course. Maybe Vember Audio Surge would work for you, but it's not basic. Although you can always use it as if it were.

Matt Tytel's Helm is quite capable, has good visual feedback on envelopes and LFOs, its modulation capabilities are top notch and it has a proper preset browser. Not the best looking interface, but acceptable.

I'd also throw Blaukraut Charlatan in the ring. Doesn't get any more basic than that... should have everything you listed in regards of features (apart from resizable GUI, and i don't think it has patch storage as well). And sounds nice.

Size can be changed in "opt" menu (up to 250%), as well as panel and text colors.

I knew about colors but somehow missed the size option, thank you for that :)

I'd really refrain from using Synth1, if you're looking for a "basic" subtractive synth. Synth1 isn't basic. It's quite a advanced feature set.

Tyrell N6 is a good choice.
I prefer the sound of Podolski: one oscillator but tons of things to do with it

I do appreciate all advice, but feel it's worth mentioning that some of these don't meet the criteria.

For example, not all of them offer all the basic waveforms for each oscillator. Seems simple enough, as requirements go, but so many synths can't do that.

There must be pulse (i.e., variable), tri, saw. For each.

Thanks!

Ups, I forgot you're on Windows: you can use Dead Duck Deducktion. Super basic, super fine.
