Re: Videos Relating To The Developer Challenge 2016

I've got two so far. I think I will only do these two for that particular DC16 entry. I plan to do more for some of the other entries, with only about 11 days left. But I suppose I could keep making these amateur videos of mine way after the DC16 is over.

The other night I was watching one video at YouTube that I made for the previous Developer Challenge and I was like "Wow, I should use that plugin more often.". The preset that sounds like Wes Montgomery's guitar does sound very close to the real thing (debatable some might say).". I'd forgotten about it. The name of that plugin is EpiCentre by developer TimeDomain.

These two videos are direct screen captures, meaning I didn't edit them in a DAW. The music is made up of midi clips that the developer of the program himself created. So, in effect, the music for the two videos really belong to the developer. The only thing I can take credit for is the choosing of what VST plugins to use for the sound output and for choosing which random-generated arrangements to keep. I plan to create my own collection of midi clips so that next time, whatever the Random Midi Arranger generate musically, will truly be mine. I am very joyjoy with the existence of this great program.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OY8393xMynw

The second video pretty much uses the same VST plugins that I used in the first video. The only difference is that I used different program changes on some of them.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_OzK-4 ... e=youtu.be

These are VST plugins that I used for the sound of both videos and they are all from the DC16:
Serpo by JD Tech
voice of snow by sun dev studio
papua merdeka by xoxos
YOOZ BL-303 by YoozMusic
RVK-808 by beatmaker
MBProcess by Marc.o Hornplans

These additional VST plugins were also used and are also free but they are not from the DC16:
LP-SGC by chokehold
U530 Free by Mercuriall
NadIR by Ignite Amps
Aradaz Maximizer5 by Aradaz

Thanks for making the video of my plugin.
It's not very representative though. It looks like you have Malefica at full overdrive after it, so whatever knobs you turn, there's not much difference in sound. It's quite apparent right at the start when you turn the Level knob up and down. You are not guitarist, so you are of course not expected to know all that in advance.
You effort is appreciated though :)

I have to admit that the presets of the first version of the qyooo do by no means cover its sound spectrum... my bad... wish I had more time right before X-Mas...

Cheers, Björn

Not a video, but its a quick noodle made while playing with my personal favourite DC16 plugins. Doesnt seem to be a better place for DC16 related audio, which seems odd.

That is true but some people who might not be guitarists will use your plugin the way I use it, amateurishly. They will download your plugin and do just what I did, turn knobs amateurishly and hastily. I suppose I should state that in all my videos, that my videos are being tested by a non-pro. But I figure... experienced guitarists will know what to do with your plugin and if they ever see my video they will see it just the way you saw it, improperly utilized.

But if you make a better video I could add to my video a description stating that "This is how someone who really know what they are doing would use this plugin." and I will provide a link to your video. I just wanted to expose your plugin to "my crowd" who may not be deeply into music-making yet but more a "scrabble-players-who-dabble-in-music-making" type of a crowd. I only have about 50 subscribers anyway and I presume 90 percent of them are scrabble players and maybe 10 percent or less are musicians who use a DAW.

Re: Videos Relating To The Developer Challenge 2016

I felt bad about not testing the SoftAmp PSA plugin properly in my first video so I tried again. I hope it's less improper this time. I guess in my first video the huge variation of sounds that SoftAmp PSA is capable of was drowned out by the bass and drums and the Malefica plugin and the Mercuriall amp and diminished by my "just-do-it-and-do-it-fast-even-if-it-sucks" philosophy. But my videos are just supposed to make my scrabble friends/enemies aware that the KVR Developer Challenge 2016 has begun and here are just some of the entries for the DC16. And it occurred to me that even here at KVR Audio some/more exposure of the plugins is also needed.

In terms of testing the videos, this one about SoftAmp PSA, for example, I admit I don't know what I am doing. But I thought point of views should come from amateurs too and not just from pros. Yes, I am such a non-pro, I am not even sure if the Mercuriall amp should be in the effects chain. SoftAmp PSA is a pre-amp and so I thought an amp should be there in the effects chain. But now I am not sure. But I did turn the other effects off and on this second time around. The bass and drums begin late too, at about the 8 minute timeline. My screen capture software has a 10-minute limit but I hope my second video did SoftAmp PSA a little bit of justice. That's the intent, after all, of all my "test VST plugins" videos. That, and exposure of the plugins, small as it may be.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sm_cQis ... e=youtu.be

The developer from Ignite Amps once told me when I was a still a total noob that it's futile for developers to include presets for their amp plugins because amps are designed to be dependent on effects or effects chain (distortion, pre-amp, amp, cabinet)... but boy oh boy I wouldn't mind presets being included with amp and pre-amp plugins because although I don't have to use them if I don't want to, it would be nice if the option is there for us less-of-a-noob-than-before-but-still-noobs, and for the absolute noobs too who might just use SoftAmp PSA by itself (without other plugin effects in the chain).

AutoTonic Player – Modal MIDI Transposer
Clue: AutoTonic Player allows you to play in various famous and custom made scales by using your white keys only. The black keys will act as keyswitches and emojis visualize the scales. Any MIDI keyboard works and also, you can play a TicTacToe game when having a real writer's block :-D Enjoy!

This stand alone program could be made to work as if it is a plugin in a DAW. The way I did it is I used Midi Yoke to route the midi output of Track 1 (which contains the melody of Song Of Joy by Beethoven) to the AutoTonic Player program that is running outside of Reaper. I then took the AutoTonic Player's midi output and route it back to Track 2 in Reaper. In the video, Track 2 is what is being sounded and one can hear it is no longer Song Of Joy because the AutoTonic Player program changed the scale a few times, as it is supposed to. It's a lot of work. Imagine if one needed to use AutoTonic Player in a DAW on 16 tracks simultaneously. That is why it would have been so nice to have a VST plugin version of AutoTonic Player available for the DC16. But hey, the stand alone version is still pretty good. Thanks to AutoTonic, the developer of the program. Ooops I did a hasty job, I forgot to change the name of Track 1 to Song Of Joy. I was originally just going to use the C Major Scale but decided to search for the Beethoven tune in my hard drive because it might be hard for some people to tell if the AutoTonic Player is doing it's job if I just stuck with the C Major Scale midi clip.
