moreso to the fact, how does one compressor differ from another aside from emulating what the hardware electronics did to the signal? I mean, it's not like compression is a difficult science. What is difficult is making the compressor actually affect the timbre of the sound in the way the compressor would on say an LA2A with it's transistors. I doubt a free comp plug-in would have the same sound as the SSL channel strip that now comes in 1U rackmount (but aren't those mostly about the signature EQ anyway?)

You should follow the link and read what it is instead of trying to make some smart observations
