well... fortunatelly there are other developers that support it and now with Ableton live 11 just around the corner (testing the beta already and loving it!), things for MPE users are getting even better!I wouldn't get my hopes up there. I once asked their support for MPE and got a rather snide reply that this will never ever happen...

I remember when I was first exposed to the idea of MPE and it instantly spoke to me deeply.
This was in Bitwig 1.0 times and hardly any instruments or controllers were available or better said, affordable.
I still hope we'll see better controllers in the near future, but on the instrument side, this year has been fantastic for MPE. My current favourite being Vital, not a granular but can get into similar territory when dragging samples onto the waveform and scrubbing them...
Cheers,
Tom

interesting. I actually bought the full version a couple of weeks ago partly because I was surprised with how well the demo performed on my laptop. I won't claim to be an expert on these kind of things though. There's probably more efficient stuff out there but I just love how Crusher-X continually manages to surprise me with its depth.Neon Breath wrote: Mon Dec 07, 2020 11:17 pm Love crusher-X, but it's a fat, very fat CPU bastard. One of the worst around I'd say, compared to all the other granular tools I have. It’s really great, but man it asks alot of ressources for sometimes very basic granulation. I feel a solid optimization job needs to be done in its engine, although I have no idea what's under the hood. But most other granular synths aren't hungry as crusher-X.

Crank up the number of grains up to 30 or 40 with longer length like 2 or 3 secs and you'll see what I'm talking about...Octave_Jumper wrote: Tue Dec 08, 2020 3:48 pminteresting. i am still thinking about granurise. i have installed live 11 suite beta (and pre-ordered it).
because M4L is not multi-core (i made a public suggestion, in centercode, also about MPE, no lift curve..), i am curious how this works within live 11 suite. because you can't buy it via ableton, ow, also no demo capability... never bought a pack, o yes oscillot, not bad, but i have enough soft modular ecosystems..., sold it..
i mean, it is a download, no demo. so perhaps someone here has granurise.
for those who are interested, it is not only a granular synth, it has a lot of capabilities, exceding the granular domain. but can be used for the granular domain.
(and yes vital is great MPE capable synth... me like MPE..)
EDIT: granurise, the word rise, i believe has to with the integration with roli, although the blocks are more integrated than rise. so perhaps is rise a reference to another thingy.
i have a roli seabord block + 2 lightpad M blocks (and a third will come eventually, buy them second hand, the lightpad M blocks..), so it is integration with blocks is deep, of granurise.
of course it is not necessary to have blocks, to fully use it. nor a touchscreen.. although both are supported.

On my PC with Windows 8.1 x64, Granurise was absolutely unusable, same as on my laptop, both older i7 with good GPUs and plenty of RAM I also use for 3D graphics.
I always found MAX to perform really badly, but this was the worst I've seen so far, crashed when changing audio interface (Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 with latest drivers, runs flawless otherwise), took ages to open and then hang and froze and whatnot.
The dev allowed me to test it - thankfully - since it was a disaster. It also was very very small, even on my HD laptop and isn't resizable. On my 4K desktop I would need a magnifying glass.
A pity really, since the tool looks fascinating, one of the most interesting granulars I've seen in a while...
I don't know how it runs in M4L, I no longer have Live.
Cheers,
Tom

ok, i see on the facebook page, that he is continually patching, which means i think he is optimazing it. or bugfixes..Dirtgrain wrote: Tue Dec 08, 2020 10:30 pm I have a 3700x CPU, and Granurise frequently is around 25% on Ableton Live's CPU meter.
i have an i7-6700K - 32 GB - gtx 1060 6g (desktop, laptop specs i7-9750H - 16gb - gtx 1050 4gb)
the single core performance is still not bad of this desktop cpu, and it is overclocked (@4.4, yes no more, known problem of the 6700k.. silicon lotery..).
tom, you don't mention the i7's you use, but thanks for your response, and of course dirtgrain.
i use windows 10 by the way (20H2).
now i think i fall in between? M4L is one core only, so... 25% bufer size load isn't bad, i have softube modular..
but all can be system depended (attached stuff, motherboard, memory, etc. etc. drivers, software, etc. etc.)
so it is possible to test it perhaps, i can ask the developer of course.
but thanks for the answers! and a pity tom, that it doesn't work on your systems.
maybe in the future, not long, the patch is optimized. (patch is small word for such a synth!)

If you do try it out, or buy it, I'd be interested to hear how it handles. I've been thinking about purchasing Granurise as well, but if the M4L version isn't fully functional, then it wouldn't be worth it for me. One of the more interesting features is the sequencer. If having several patterns running on the sequencer were to cause clicks, or crash Ableton, that would be a deal breaker.WasteLand wrote: Wed Dec 09, 2020 4:50 amThomasHelzle wrote: Tue Dec 08, 2020 9:14 pm On my PC with Windows 8.1 x64, Granurise was absolutely unusable, same as on my laptop, both older i7 with good GPUs and plenty of RAM I also use for 3D graphics.

Just loaded it again to see. After loading (takes a bit compared to other plugins), just sitting there without a sample, CPU jumps around from 17% to 20%. The graphic of the grains is in action.Dirtgrain wrote: Tue Dec 08, 2020 10:30 pm I have a 3700x CPU, and Granurise frequently is around 25% on Ableton Live's CPU meter.
Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.
