Padshop is great, but I don't use it much because it isn't resizable. I took for granted that an upgrade released 2020 (or was it 2019?) would be resizable, but nooo...

That's probably its weakest point. + not having a zoom tool to zoom into the sample for more precise work. But sound wise, it's a beast and a must imo for any ambient'ish sounds.starflakeprj wrote: Mon Nov 16, 2020 9:51 pm Padshop is great, but I don't use it much because it isn't resizable. Not that I want to start a discussion about resizability, but, what resolution and screen size are you guys using, and how far is your monitor away from your eyes? I have no issues at all with Padshop on a Full HD 24.5" display.

I've had a difficult time finding anything i like over the M4L Granulator II, but if i ever leave Live i'd be sure to pick up Imaginando's FRMS pretty quickly.

It's pretty cool. I chose similar sounds--with some difference--to not get a chaotic mess. I used delay/reverb to mush it all a bit, and I got a drone I like (but that will disappear in a few minutes). I wish I could EQ each sample--can this be done? I think it would make using disparate samples better.Dirtgrain wrote: Mon Nov 16, 2020 9:08 pmThis is a thing?Echoes in the Attic wrote: Fri Nov 13, 2020 9:53 am One of the coolst granular synths out there right now is Pigments I think. You can load 6 wav files in one granular osc and it cycles between them, which gives this cool effect which is different than just layering granular oscs or samples in other synths.

I have a 38", 3840 x 1600 display (approx. 70-75 cm from my eyes), and while the GUI isn't super small, I think it's sometimes "fuzzy" to look at. Even Grain (from Reason Studios), which actually is even smaller, feels more clear.chk071 wrote: Mon Nov 16, 2020 10:16 pm Not that I want to start a discussion about resizability, but, what resolution and screen size are you guys using, and how far is your monitor away from your eyes? What other synths do you have? Padshop 2 is very good. That said, I think Pigments 2 is better for a total package.DJ Warmonger wrote: Mon Nov 16, 2020 7:47 pm Any Padshop 2 fans left here? It's still on my wishlist for Black Friday, but I don't see it praised here![]()

the granular world is expanding. grains expanding...
granurise:
https://granurise.com/
(and padshop 2 is very good, not resizable, yes, but i have "special" monitors for small instruments... with it's spectral synthesis.. and granular synthesis (resynthesis even but that is always the case..)
EDIT: i seems that i buy synths when i get into a kind of synthesis, now i am into granular (not all the time....), i'll buy a stack.
already have all glitchmachines stuff, for 2 years me thinks, or less.
pigments 2, the granular engine, is great. indeed.
granulizer 2, yeah, must still tame it.
spacecraft!
padshop 2, of course.
grain (reason)
i have M4L, so...
the granular oscillator of biotek2, with MPE, isn't bad me thinks. i like it, maybe personal.
crusher-x stays on top of everything it seems, but still; good stuff can found, for less. don't own crusher-x, it is for me the model of composition/sounddesgin synth (grain and composition started together). but the price...
o well perhaps one day...

Anyone try Granurise in Ableton since the recent update? Is there still an issue with clicks and pops?

That looks incredible but surely the M4L version will not support MPE (at least not till Live 11)?WasteLand wrote: Fri Nov 27, 2020 10:00 pm the granular world is expanding. grains expanding...

it was unclear via the website, or i didn't find it, or was too quick...aMUSEd wrote: Sat Nov 28, 2020 2:39 pmThat looks incredible but surely the M4L version will not support MPE (at least not till Live 11)?WasteLand wrote: Fri Nov 27, 2020 10:00 pm the granular world is expanding. grains expanding...

so i asked some questions:
it supports MPE in live 10 suite, with the known workaround, create 16 midi tracks, there is a python script for it even (the link on the roli site is wrong, i have found a working one, can't find it that fast now).
but it will work; i quote "out of the box" in live 11 suite.
and it works as standalone in MAX 8 (even when the trial period has ended), but of course it is nicer to have it in live 11 suite (although M4L is still limited to one core, but that can change.. it can..).
but is a beast, a lot of possibilites, and i own a seabord block + 2 lightpad M blocks, tight integration with the blocks. nice.
bought too much, again.. o well. i had a plan. didn't work. but i only bought what i really wanted for a long time, i thought.. this is it...
than i saw granurise, i will wait, and hope the intro price is still valid, when live 11 suite arrives. MPE i tested it, it works, in live 10 suite, but i prefer not to setup, i work in strange ways.. so...
but budget is gone, but this thing is really great. spectral/fm morphing... playing with grain voices... etc. etc.
a nice addition to the granular realm me thinks.

So aside from M4L, is this only standalone on windows? Or you have to use it in MaxMSP?WasteLand wrote: Fri Nov 27, 2020 10:00 pm the granular world is expanding. grains expanding...

This looks really amazing, but it does say "Max MSP 8" as a requirement, so I'm assuming that is to run it standalone, though that may just be for certain 'features'(?). I have Live-9 suite (and Max4Live), but a lot of the newer Max4Live apps apparently only support Live 10, which really sucks.Echoes in the Attic wrote: Sat Nov 28, 2020 3:31 pmSo aside from M4L, is this only standalone on windows? I'm also struggeling with Padshops UI. I wanted to buy Quanta as a replacement, but i decided to skip this years black friday. Movement is good for your health, so i bend forward to scale the UI
I need some training, but i think that i can use Padshop blindfolded in a few months
Of course i still hope that they'll improve UI.
If you just want to create some granular-typical pads and athmos, i can also recommend the fantastic Grainspace by Audiority. Place it on some short decay sounds from a synth or sampler and you'll get some sweet instant atmospheres
Grainspace is very musical and works much better than other granular delays i've tested. So for pads and atmos this is definitly a great option
