i have to say that i like the overall characteristic of the N.I. "sound" and i feel that if i were to compare it to a hardware synth it would be the K2000... (speaking in very very general terms)

One thing is really annoying me about Massive (the demo, but I'm sure i's the same in the unlocked version).
If you do MIDI learn on a knob or slider, and move the physical control, the on-screen control moves. OK-good.
If you do MIDI learn on one of the 8 Macro Controls, and move your physical control, then the Macro Control knob moves too.Again,good.
BUT...when you assign a Macro Control to anything, and alter the Macro Control, either with the mouse or through MIDI, then the assigned knob or slider does NOT move.
And that seems dumb!
But other than that, Massive is a winner in my book.
Great sound,well thought out interface.
If only it was cheaper

This by far is Native instruments best sounding synth in my opinion (i have'nt tried fm8 yet). I own Reaktor but did not buy any more of their synths because i prefered the Applied-Acoustics-Systems line of synths and Cakewalk's and Propellerheads, but this Massive is raw, i could tell i'd like it before demo was released because of the audio clips on NI's web site, but when i demo'd it i fell in love within minutes. The sound is rich and beautifull, very flavorfull. I'd love to slap it on a couple tracks (just can't afford it right now), NI has definitely put on their clown suits this time. I wish they'd make Reaktor sound that rich, creamy and detailed. My next synth to get is Rapture but i will be comming for Massive and Massive is no doubt one of the best sounding synths out here to my ears. NI are truly clowning now. I am impressed!

Try running Reaktor at 2x your normal sample rate... you'll get there.sounddesigner wrote:I wish they'd make Reaktor sound that rich, creamy and detailed.

Well it's an average FX unit and the various WT don't do much, they could reduce the number by 3 at least.
It has to be WET or rather drenched to dissimulate the weaknesses.
It's not only NI.

i must admit, i would have liked there to have been some waveables with more variety in them too, like the way some of the stuff in the fizmo is. but i still think there is lots to have fun with in massive. (though it certainly would be cool if updates brought more wavetables, with more variety.)Nuisances Sonores wrote:the various WT don't do much,
interesting that you should say that.It has to be WET or rather drenched to dissimulate the weaknesses.
i tend to use a lot of effects on my synths (or at least a whole lot of delay) but while messing with the demo today i remarked to myself how i was enjoying massive with just the oscillators, filters, and perhaps a little distortion. when i did add some effects, i was only using a bit. in that respect, it was kind of like how i used to use my microwave XT.

...that's one more point for sticking with the Reaktor synths for the moment...ew wrote:Try running Reaktor at 2x your normal sample rate... you'll get there.sounddesigner wrote:I wish they'd make Reaktor sound that rich, creamy and detailed.

it is better if you record at 4 times slower and 4 octave lower!ew wrote:Try running Reaktor at 2x your normal sample rate... you'll get there.

FM8 is better than Massiva... Morphing is a fun and it's not trashing a cpu as much. I think it's more cpu efficient than any other major VST FM based synth actually.

Yeah, I like FM8 better too.

Not at all dumb when you realise that each knob can be targeted by 3 simultaneous controllers - which way would it move when more than one Macro is moved at once?Aural Chaos wrote:One thing is really annoying me about Massive

Or put very simple: You have to understand that the Macro knobs are not remote controllers but modulation sources.phattslagg wrote:Not at all dumb when you realise that each knob can be targeted by 3 simultaneous controllers - which way would it move when more than one Macro is moved at once?Aural Chaos wrote:One thing is really annoying me about Massive

Yeah -- I'm curious as well JohnOld Crab wrote:I'd be interested in listening to some of your music. I browsed a few pages over in Music Cafe but didn't see anything.
