choosing Between - Surge - Serum - Synthmaster one- Vital and Synthmaster 2.9

VST, AU, AAX, CLAP, etc. Plugin Virtual Instruments Discussion

Post

ok so I am demoing all these over the next few days
so far I'm really Leaning towards Synthmaster 2.9 ( trying them all out as we speak ( as I type lol )
As I said in my other Post I'm not Really a Good Sound Designer
I mean I can design my own sounds , and i want to here and there
but i also want great pre-sets Tweakabilty and options
as all of these are wavetable synths i think they are comparable
so what's your pros and cons for each synths ?
the other two synths i have are phonec and minimonsta

( please don't say choose which one you like best and try them out )
because that's what I'm doing i want to hear what some amateurs and pros think about these synths
as some reviews are articles are always paid and biast

I really like Synthmaster look and feel ease or use and sounds
I hate surges mod matrix
don't like the look of vital
and serum i don't like the built in sounds
the one i have built a good sound with easily so far is Synthmaster 2.9
what's your thoughts
thank you !!

I would look into U He synths, best 3rd party presets in business and great for doing sound design, if you are into wavetables, than look at Hive or Zebra.

Stick with Surge. It's only getting better and better. 😎

Synapse Dune is amazing too, Parawave Rapid, dunno, demo everything, stick to what makes most sense to you, just because something fits my thing perfectly, doesn't mean it should yours, I didn't even knew what fits me until recently and have been doing this for quite some time, found that by using those things, not reading about them, over time some stuff stood out and my brain got aligned to them.

If someone gave my option to just use those synths you mention, I would stop making music.

If you really like Synthmaster, then buy Synthmaster ;)

SynthMaster one has easier workflow/interface because it has fewer options and features. Personally I have SynthMaster One but I don't use it a lot. If I would choose again, I would choose SynthMaster 2.9 especially version 3.0 is near the corner ;)

Anyway, for my personal use, I use mostly Massive/Massive X for wavetable synthesis. That's being said, I also use Vital, Largo and Polymer/The Grid (in Bitwig).
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Out of those. I like SM best. Lots of usable presets. I like the workflow. The sound sits well in a mix. Sooner or later SM3 will come out and the Dev has some big ambitions. It can be buggy at times but most issues have been worked out. It covers with of ground sound wise.

Just buy Synthmaster and get it over with.

I think you need good factory sounds, thats why you choose Synthmaster. I had that synth in the past, but get rid of it because had some silly bugs , and I had some crash in my environment.
Back to the factory sounds: I also want super good presets in a synth, I suggest these: u-he hive, u-he Zebra, tone2 icarus, kilohearts phase plant, vps avenger,

If you end up buying SM wait until they are having a sale. For me SM was totally NO - the demo version was crashing on and on (also it crashed whole FL Studio). Maybe that has been fixed finally?

Serum’s factory presets weren’t very good for me. But then I saw huuuuuuge amount of YouTube tutorials using Serum and making all sort of sounds. And I think there is plenty of free sounds for Serum.

But then Vital is quite similar to Serum. Not same, but similar.

Dune3, Hive2 have good selection of factory presets. Dune’s demo version only gives couple so you don’t really know all the sounds what you’ll get. Hive demo gives you listen all the factory presets I believe.

Rapid also has only some factory presets with the demo & you can only use 2-3 layers with the demo (that is quite strange since the 8 layers is one of Rapid’s selling point).

Avenger: People are complaining about Avenger’s re-activation system. Maybe it would work for you just fine, but just a bit warning that some people are having big problems with Avenger in that aspect.

You have already formed your opinion, so what we can say more? Vital looks (on the first sight) cheap, but the GUI is very functional and the sound is terrific.

Serum is great but I would also look at Pigments and Phaseplant.

From my understanding..that will be a free upgrade.

Opinions are good. Making your own decisions is better. ;)

Especially considering it's your money which is being spent here. There are demos available for any of the plugins mentioned here, and the free ones are free anyway.
