ok. so how did vurt set Note Gate as a source in the mod matrix in the first three presets of his MT bank?

i must be blind, because i can't find this as an option in the pop-up menus...

If you choose "Mod LFO x Sync" (from the "Mod LFO/Env" sub-menu) as the modulation destination in the modulation matrix, the modulation source is automatically set as "Note Gate".

I guess we should add this detail in the manual ...

Indeed, LFO sync will set Note Gate as the source. But, you can also use Pitch to act as a note gate. Just put min and max to 127.
