It does for some of us at least. :) I'm not that impressed with Fruity's multi track functions, but the program has increased in leaps and bounds with every updated version. If you want a cheap, yet highly versatile tracker app, then this is the one to get. I personally feel that it gets a bad rap because in our shallow society, a common paradigm is more money = a better product. Sometimes that is the case, but it is not set in stone.

I got into this debate with several electronic musicians in San Diego a while ago. Half of them said Fruity was for amateurs, the others said you can go pro with it. Apparently the debate will go on indefinitely. Use whatever works best for you. It's really about the skills you possess, and not the gear. I've seen people with racks upon racks of equipment that eat a bag. I've also seen people with just an old mpc on stage that blew my mind.

hopefully with all this debate, the cat who asked the original question won't end up quitting music altogether, and go to back school to be an accountant.

Shit, no-one told me! :-o
Right, well... I rest my case.
And what case is that? :?:  :?:
Donkey Tugger produces "traditional band music" with FL all the time! (I sort of do this as well... I use FL as a VSTi in Sonar to record my audio tracks, render the audio and then import the tracks into FL for mixing with the other VSTi's and whatnot...)

If you define "professional" as top-notch (or even if you define it any other way), yes, FL Studio can produce professional results.

Look up "tefnek". Top-top-top-notch dancy big-beat tracks! My stuff's pretty good, and I use FL, I guess :P http://www.tjhsst.edu/~alederer/Music/, click sort by "Date" twice to get the newest on top. Plenty more, be back with more.

Why would you use Fruity when Sonar does everything Fruity can do and then some, especially when Sonar is fully capable of handling all of the other VSTi's that you're mixing in with your Fruity compositions? I'm not trying to be a dick, man... just curious. Seems like alot of messing around for what you could accomplish in either Sonar or Fruity by itself.

No I just excluded Rap because the production standards are the lowest.
concord dawn may not be your cup of tea, and i don't care much for it either but it is clearly professional music.
I disagree, mate. Even when they got popular before the production quality uprise in DnB, I considered them sub-standard, and I still do except for that remix they did on Dieselboy's new label.

Severed Heads use FLStudio, FWIW. And they've just done a film soundtrack, so count that up as another "professional" use.

Post

Lots of people use FLStudio, but they also use Pro-Tools, Cubase or whatever alongside it.

I'm sure most of the artists people list here as "professional FLStudio users" fall into this catagory.

Post

Why does this matter?

Post

Because the original poster wants a professional application that does everything (or did).

Anyway. I don't care. FLStudio, without PDC, Autosave, non-destructive audio-editing, quality effects, or half-decent MIDI implementation (and lets face it, the piano-roll is f**king shite too), is never going to be seen as a professional application in my opinion.

Your millage may vary.

Post

Because some people have this odd theory that they can make "professional" music if they use a "professional" music host.

Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realise this was a fish thread.

For the record, I vote for "fish" as well. However, I wouldn't use carp if I were you. It colours the sound too much. Salmon is more transparent...

Uh... yes. My millage does vary.

Let's face it, the piano roll is quite honestly the best I've ever used. I've tried demos for most of the hosts that have been released, free or otherwise, and FL's piano roll is far and away the most usable. It has autosave; just use VST/DX effects not the native ones [this applies to just about any host]; it DOES have non-destructive audio editing/chopping/arranging/automation; and PDC is the only thing on your list that actually makes sense.

So you may not see it as a professional application, but considering how misinformed you are and how widely your opinions vary from that of most people on earth, I don't think your estimation on this matter is of any real consequence to anyone in this thread or in the world at large.

The most highend, complex and sophisticated music that comes to mind is full-blown orchestral music, and I don't know any respected composers that use FL for orchestral scores.
