Well the hardware cards are the TDM bit. You cant run PoCo plugins without a PoCO board, you cant run TDM plugins without a TDM board...

The fact that the basic TDM setup is over £5K is a slightly different matter...

You blame Digidesign because you don't know how to install and properly use their software. For the rest millions of users it works just fine and so many people trust this piece of software for the most expensive music projects.

Here's the deal I've run into so far.......it's protools, not eh, so-so tools. I mean that it really takes time to figure it out......but so far there is nothing it can't do.....but please try to give it time.

Cubase, sonar, tracktion, flstudion, live.........GOD DAMMIT FRYLOCK...i've tried em all! Some good, some not so good. So far I am totally blown away by protools mpowered. Midi, audio, plug in's (yep, they have to be rtas pretty much/or use the fxpansion vst/rtas adapter (oh shake, not ANOTHER adaptor!) but they work. No crashing...(eh hem.......cubase/sonar........hello?)
It takes a bunch of cpu power to do plug ins, yes. but it's protools, and I got it for about 500usd total/soundcard/installed.....

PT is one of those things....alot of the world still works from that base so if you need it you need it. they dont really need to be better anymore. they already got the market share. my single reference is still no offline rendering. everything still has to bounce at real time speed,this kills the freeze workarounds that were in other apps for ages, worse if your fx chian is to much for the cpu you cant render at all. your best bet is to route the cables and record to a blank track. cakewalk 8 could offline bounce one track to another track in 98ish? this is using LE 6 something at a local studio with the 002. if anyone knows a better way let me know..eh. still its been good and solid for the most part at what its supposed to do I guess, but I only use it when I need to.(ie someone elses studio) at home Im happy with ableton and or sonar

yeah ummm, i try to avoid digidesign at all costs. A lot of my friends and colleagues have always worked with protools rigs. Definately not for me. I know a bunch of people who use LE for example. I still to this day do not undertand the reason for limiting the track-count to 32. I always tell people to avoid protools LE if possible and they never listen. Oh well, sucks for them. LE is of course just a ploy to get people to eventually get an expensive HD TDM rig. ANyways, the native stuff is almost in the same league as the TDM stuff with the rapidly growing processor speeds nowadays. Instead of LE and a Digi002, i say just get a motu 828mk2 and cubase, nuendo or logic or performer if you're a mac user. Oh well, such is life.

The main thing many of my protools friends have over my setup is the Beat Detective stuff. Sometimes, when I'm in a bind, I will often find myself beggin them for a chance to beat detect some tracks here and there. Other than that, I really don't see why people who rely on mostly soft synths/samplers need to worry about protools but then again, what do i know.

Agree it's not that bad at all. But when I decided to install virus TDM demo after installin Pro tools m-powered the computer responded with quote that in fact I don't have pro tools installed on my computer. So wtf I have then. Sorry digidesign not buying that.

I think the tdm stuff is the "expensive" protools, so the maudio stuff won't work.

Stupid enough to say 3 years ago...........hey.....what's this daw stuff? Acid, fl, sonar, crackwalk, tracktion, podium, battery 2, hardware, articles, crashes, crashes, no answeres..........WHOOOOOOOOOOOA! And the worst part was I wasn't getting anything done because something was always missing.

Enter protools. I hate the dongle, I hate maudio (fw410 I had was the anticrist, no help from maudio...but 192 seems to be fine) but I had to get into this protools thing.

I cannot stress how much I can now do, without the crashing, without all the major problems/limitation. I get a stiffy everyday because I find another crazy helpful feature. Little bitty things that just rock and make life good.

Yeah, they like so many others suck. But I have just givin' up and said so are cakewalk, maudio, and so many others. It's either use the tools unemotionally or stop using it all together (f**k, the money I would have saved!)

Exceptions like jamstix/razoon, fxpansion, zynewavepodium and other who at least try a few and far between. And when I find a company I like.......allot of the time they change.......so what to do??????
