What are the big names out there...GIGA and Kontakt are 2 that I hear about the most.... I don't like spending money on buying a hugh library and ended up not using it at all. Sometimes I am way too crazy when it comes to sounds...I want them ALL...and that's impossible. And sometimes I find myself looking for a sound rather than playing.
I hear ya there. Actually, one of the things I LOVE about my Sampletank set up is how easy it is to find things now.

At first it seemed to me that IK wouldn't want SampleTank to be able to import other sound formats because then Sonic Reality would be in competition with other sample providers - and that's probably exactly the case
ST has grown in the past and will do so in the future. See, we're getting to version 2.1 soon.
IK wants you to import samples, otherwise import of AKAI would not be included already.

I'm still waiting for my ST2 and SS2 to arrive...can't wait...going to work has been a drag! :p

GIGA and Kontakt are the two most prominent sample formats, in which you can find many many libraries of samples. Many many free libraries can be found only in Kontakt or Giga, not to mention all those high-end orchestral-type libraries

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by some of the sounds in ST2, but disappointed in a few of them. If you're like me, you will end up using it a LOT, but for certain things, you need to go back to good old sfz and break out the sf2's. If I could, I would also be breaking out the Kontakt/GIGA files, but since I have nothing that can play them... :P SampleTank doesn't even support the mapping intricacies and techniques that Kontakt/GIGA/other sampler files, so sample import may be a long way off, but I don't see why IK would want to continue to hamper the awesome engine with a less than stellar feature set and mapping setup.
