...xander reviews, part 1

Lady J - Jump and Wind:

Fades in then fades out :hihi: Sounds like a chorus 'excerpted' from a previously recorded track. It is over-amped -- distorted during the 'vocals'. I don't think this song was recorded specifically for this contest and in fact sounds like it is a badly recorded audio copy, but to hell with the rules, eh?

Distorted??!? Over Amped??

It's DRUM N BASS there is not enough time for an intro with the 2 min limit and fadeouts are my style as most commercial tracks fade out.

So whose DnB rule is that? Who said you had to do DnB anyway? Can't you do a song that starts and ends in two minutes like everyone else tries to do? Or maybe we should just overlook it in your case cuz yer a Diva an all...

I really do think you're not being , how do you say it, honest.

Here we go again with you and your "commercial" trip. Who said anything about commercial music? It's about "music you can dance to"....

Wow, fastest composer (get her a keytar and let her ROCK!), fastest poster, and fastest rationalizer I've ever seen!

To be fair, "composed specifically for this contest" is only in the "should be" category of the rules. But making the excuse that it's D&B with no time for the requisite intro, therefore I must fade in is just hogwash. What you meant was, "Yes, this song was not composed for this contest and it has a 2-minute intro which I couldn't put in and I'm too lazy to go into Logic and create a new beginning." Anyone that posts an entry 40 minutes after the submissions thread announces the theme simply has to admit they used a preexisting song.

oh well...Lady J the distorted vox sound terrible imo...however I do not like distorted vox to begin with...however I think it odd that you wouldn't want to work on your entry a little more then just throwing it in this quick...I dont care for music contests because too me art's not compitition...however if I was too eneter a contest I would give it more time and thought then you did, I think it shows cockiness on your part...cockiness, attitude, superficial pictures...where does that fit in with spirituality?

yes. i love them and Reprazent but i loved Breakbeat Era more than the 2nd Reprazent album.
Shit yea I fuckin love BE. Some of the best music ever made IMO. I have a limited edition 7-peice vinyl set that i need to replace cuz i've pretty much burned it from listening so much.

Shit. As I predicted, another Lady J-centered month.

No mate -- if that's the case then I guess we can go back to any recording that we've ever done and do a fade in/out from the chorus. I think the intent for the contest is clear.

I'd actually rush to join that one!
I have the "Wild Bull" on vinyl!!
Same here, and Silver Apples of the Moon and a very little known one called Sidewinder . . . and have several of his old Buchla stuff on CD.

But, no, we've got to do dance music. Maybe I'll do Subotnick dance music.

Everyone knows damn well the intent is to have songs composed specifically for the contest, but the fact remains, that part of the rules says "should" not "must." You could put it in "must" but how are you going to enforce it? On the other hand, putting it in "should" leaves the doors open for 'rule lawyers' to put in their old crap and claim to be following the rules.

Basically, it's up to the voters now to take 9 points of LadyJ's score for not caring about the spirit of the contest.

Anyway . . . I've got some old techno stuff of mine sitting around here somewhere . . .

Exactly -- and you don't have to be a f**king Einstein to understand that -- or to hear a song posted 44 minutes after the theme is announced to know that someone just copied some crap from an old recordig into the submissions thread. That's not me being pedantic, that's been the understanding in here for years.
