Hi all,
I am looking for a free or low-cost VST/DX clone from waves C1 compressor/gate.
I have been working over 5 years on a virtual orban optimod-sounding broadcastchain and I now want to replace all used plugins for free or low-cost plugins to make the chain available for as everybody who's interested in the chain.
Any ideas? Thanks a lot!

closest I can think of (without the Gate, just the Expander) is the lovely Kjaerhus GCO-1 and it sounds a lot better than the Waves C1 in my opinion.

If you need the sidechain capabilities of the C1 (and i guess you'll need them for Optimod-like processing), i'm afraid, there is no other comp capable of that.

Closest ????????????????????
what you compare:
The GCO-1 is a versatile quality compressor and expander plugin modeled after some of the best analog compressors
With C1 which is well known as a transparent comp !
I don't know GCO-1 but if compared to anything else colorwise from waves it would be with RenComp (which has no gate...)

Yep... The Sonitus compressor sounds awfully close...
And it even looks similar!

What I need to do is: split te signal in two bands, then limit the high frequencies a bit and put te expander behind that (so I don;t need the gate, just the expander). this way the expander will function as noise reducer and I can tell you: that works pretty good!soundpalace wrote:closest I can think of (without the Gate, just the Expander) is the lovely Kjaerhus GCO-1 and it sounds a lot better than the Waves C1 in my opinion.

But I agree: It's time to leave that good ol' waves c1 alone...
