Someone once built a simulation of it (using SynthEdit). But I don't remember whom it was.

There aren't that many that are actually like a tape delay, despite their names as such.

My favourite is Project 1 TapeDelay, but it doesn't appear to be available any more. Aldi is a member here, and I'm pretty sure he coded it, so maybe he'll stop in to say if it's a dead project.

ConcreteFX have a free one, it's alright, but never struck me as very tape-like. Same would apply for things like Karlette.

Some of the Synthedit-made ones actually do a pretty good job: check out arcdev's Echotank XL, or Elogoxa's Elottronix XL.

One thing a tape delay should do is change the pitch in a slow/fast tape sort of way when you adjust the delay time. Most VST out there do not.

My favourite is Bionic Delay. Actually, the first version of this delay was coded to replace the Logic delay:

Everyone talks about Trash's amp sim and distortion capabilities. But it also has a great delay with lots of features.

Mac only I believe, but Augustus Loop is fantastic, and it does have full inertia controls to give as much speed-up/slow-down sound as you like.

Thanx an all!! Very good links and good delays...

Thx

actually arcdev's dubb box seems very much in that league, too. more so than his echo tank, but that's just a guess... i like the interface a lot more than bionic delay's...

arcdev's dubb box is my favorite... anyone else use it? just curious...

I recently rediscovered dubb box myself - can't believe i'd d/l'd it & just left it there.
Perfect for getting that long dubby feedback delay in the background.

I took a sawtooth wave off this Pantomime4, looped it back, mixed it with the sound of this crab committing suicide and let it stew in its own reverb for about 3 hours, then I pumped it all out through this shoe to give it that oak'y timbre.
