maybe using fl studio in LIVE MODE...
Has problems with certain VSTs, but apart from that I don't think Live's ever crashed on me.

I vote for Project5. I've been sitting in with a jam band recently and having loads of fun with it.
In my setup I have one controller keymapped to the the groove matrix where I am triggering audio loops and midi patterns for instruments. On this controller I have the knobs keymapped to alter certain mix and effects settings. I have another controller set up to play various virtual instruments. And I have a foot pedal mapped to the tap tempo so I can stay in time with the band. You should check it out. Oh and the included Dimension synth is awesome.
I'm glad the c major scale was invented before copyright law

Live, or Brainspawn forte and your favorite VST/DX plug-ins. Forte has no recording or sequencing but it's got lots of features designed for live use. Very nice.

I have not found Ableton Live to be buggy. Works very well and has an excellent interface for live use.

so far Ableton Live is NOT quite what I'm looking for - although it's close.

ALthough Live is great, it still operates in the realm of a 'linear' paradigm which is not necessary in my particular application. I'm sorry if I can't define what I mean by linear - although my application is not necessarily sequence based.

I'm going to investigate Project5 one more time.

Thanks everyone for the input.

Don't ask me, I just play here.

Greg

as someone else already suggest
did you try EnergyXT

Yes,no,maybe...
I dont know...
Can you repeat the question???...

Could give an exemple of things you have to do? If you more technically inclined you could have a go at MAX/MSP along with Jitter (graphics) but then you need to build you own things which might take a while. From what I've read though, Max/msp seems to be very much used in multimedia events and all.
Not really my type of software but I know you can pretty much build anything with that.

I'm now leaning towards Project5, but might change my mind after playing around with it some more. Apparently the vst is turned off on the demo, so it doesn't tell me anything about stability, flexibility, etc.

I'm enjoying the videos.

Oh, and yes I checked out EnergyXT. Hasn't really grabbed me (yet).
MAX/MSP is too 'nerdy' and WAY to convoluted to get what I need done.

What I'm doing is providing real-time jamming, soloing, chord changes, rhythm mapping, instrument changes, song-style mapping (like Jammer), etc. - all requiring some moderate sample playback (we're currently using old Yamaha MIDI XG module with sequencers) and/or vst/dx synth plugins. We're also mapping into show control.

The overall attempt is to go to the next step beyond DJ'ing and sort of converging it with real musicianship/performance aspects for the GENERAL public.

I can't elaborate anymore than that until we go public with the application <hehe>.

Sure sounds like a job for Live.

Have you tried Tracktion yet?

It sounds strange perhaps to some, but Cubase can be great if you have all your controllers & automation macros set up right.

I'm already a long-time Samplitude, Acid, and former Logic/Cubase user, so I've eliminated these as being too much overkill for this app.

Ableton Live MIGHT be a strong contender, but it seems somehow too 'linear', but I am still investigating.

Other contenders include:
Reaktor
Magix Music Studio (believe it or not)

We do NOT need a good audio recording app, just mostly sequencer/sample playback with vst/dx plugin features

I'm new to this forum, and still researching all the various threads.

Any other recommendations?

Thanks,

Greg
Live was made for Jamming! and it's great for production too.

Oh, yes, but once you build your toolbox up, apparently, the equation flips. But it's something you'd spend months working with full time before you fully got your brain around it. I've started to scratch the surface with PD, just barely. But then, I'm pretty nerdy.
