I tried to get a response to this query before and got a biased response from a Cubase user that simply stated, "Cubse does what traktion does." I'm by no means new to DAW and have used ooodles of other applications, DP, PT, Paris Cakewalk, Reason, Rebirth, Recycle, NI, Logic...with an emphasis on Cubase 5.1. I recently purchase Abelton Live 5.1 and love it. I can perform....I produce/program/mix/edit/create my own samples. My question is, Why wouldn't I want Traktion? Does Cubase SX/SL/SE create hit songs for $199-$499? I love Cubase BUT...I fell in love with the Traktion demo immediately. With Live I've already got a power house for remixing, etc. I just need something to record my initial midi/ vox/ and guitar. I really like the Freeze feature for my slower 1.5ghz G4. I need to be able to do seemless crossfading/wave editing and have powerful midi/VST compatibility. For mastering, I use iZotope and or TRax so I don't need apogee dithering. Why don't I want Traktion. To me, Traktion is not a hobbyist application as some claim. If it is, WHY? Details brotha! If you don't have a song, who cares how many bells and whistles come out of the box. Traktion uses a 64 bit data path so audio is only rudimentary with the interface you have. Anyone help?

Just my experience.I also love Traction and bought T2. But after endless hours trying to get my hardware synths hooked up and working(no luck)I had to go buy Cubase.I am keeping T2 cause I know it will be fixed someday and then Ill try again. (I do plan to use it and Audobe as my audio recording and editing.)

Did you think Live was only for DJ's? it has powerful remixing/arrangement capabilities. Ofcourse...I'm not a DJ but I figured out that Live is incredibly useful adding new flavor to your already recorded material with virtuallly non destructive editing. Live is also very useful when you're lost for inspiration and can only come up with 8 bars of composition. Would you want to score for film with Live (perhaps the next Matrix film)? Probably not...that's where Traktion 2 or Cubase are better suited. If you're intention is to churn out dance, electronica, deep house, LCD Sound System, Brazillian Girls, Massive Attack, Beck type material...Live will have the logical sensibility and tools to do so. I immediately found it appealing and easy to use!

Hmmm. Ya know, I've never had too many difficulties with Midi that I couldn't sort out. What was the issue within Traktion? How was your midi's configuration in conflict with Traktion...and Cubase solved it for you? I used to have a several pieces of outboard and in fact, what I have now is sort collecting dust. I only wish I had a few vintage pieces for vintage sake.

I have t2, been a user for a long time. Its nice, but Cubase is much better for MIDI and speed. Templates in T2 are tough to get up and going, and my workflow has improved so much in Cubase..but Tracktion is an awesome program and I still have it as my backup.

Sounds like you're already sold. I hate Tracktion. That's the ugliest interface I've ever seen. No mixer. No video support so I can work on synching sound to video. Never got any further than that.

My workflow for Cubase is smooth as anything else. Learn the program, map out shortcut keys, anything is going to be fast after that.

Tracktion do have video suport, albeit very basic.

Tracktion and Cubase have very different feel to them. I think you won't find many users who like both programs.

When I first tried Tracktion, something clicked. It was like I always thought a sequencer should work. It just felt right. It still does.
On the other hand, I can't stand Cubase.

Are you Tracktion people or Cubase people? Play around with both and you'll know the answer.

There isn't anything Tracktion can't do that should stop you from making music.

Handovergold,I know many guys have figured out how to use Traction and hardware and I spent many hours trying and just figured it was me and my computer ignorance.Got a free copy of LE and everything I was trying to do worked first time.I still was wondering what I was doing wrong in Traction then found several threads on Raw Source,guys haveing the same trouble with hardware synths. So, Im not giving up on traction,Im just waiting til the other guys say it works and Ill try again.I love everything else about Traction and Im sure Ill be using it in the future.(but I love Cubase SL asmuch now)Nice to have so many tools!!!! You should definitely use what makes you happy. I don't understand why you could use your hardware with Cubase and not with Traktion, I would think that has more to do with your setup than either sequencer - they can both track audio and MIDI, no?

Anyway, use the one you like, especially if it's cheaper!

I think in general Tracktion is more efficient. The same synth/effects setup that cause CPU issues and crackling in Cubase, ran smoothly in Tracktion. Who knows now because both have been upgraded since.

But mostly, I liked tracktion because it was clean, uncluttered, and I was up and actually recording music and enjoying it within an hour of trying the demo. Cubase was less stable and gave me headaches. After two months with it, I realized I was not enjoying making music with it. Most important feature of all for me.

I don't think you can really compare Cubase SX3 to Tracktion 2. As much as I like Tracktion, it really isn't in the same league as SX3. Compare Tracktion to EnergyXT or FL Studio, but not to SX3 (or Logic for that matter).
As far as stabilty with SX3 is concerned--it is rock solid for me.
