Tell me about it. Every f**ker I met when I lived in Chicago was apparently Irish or Italian, or some mongrel hybrid I swear they just made up. Except my black friends, they were the only people who rightfully and simply said "I'm American". Yeah you're right, you're way out of touch with modern music. If you could honestly call the music I write and listen to dance/trance, Rap/etcetera hop or "Ethnic"(WTF!!!), albeit with "miniscule" changes, then... Shit, I don't know, but that's the biggest load of crock I've heard in years.

Have you even heard of Latin music, or is that covered under "Ethnic" too? Bizarre!

A lot of the stuff I listen to is shite. There's not really that much music around.

But DnB cannot really fit in your classification.

It's obviously electronic dance but without kicks on quarter notes. And where do you put 70s Disco, it's performed (albeit to a precise metronome click track) drumming and "live" musicians playing dance music but often with kicks on quarter notes?

God people get over yourselves! I thought it was agreed long ago that genres can be useful in some regards but bad if they're followed too religiously. Also for some people quite general genres are fine while others (DJs) need narrower categorizations. And there's good and bad stuff in every genre, some people just don't like the feel of certain genres. I, for one, can't listen to D'n'B for too long cause it either becomes too much or too boring - with dancing to D'n'B it's the same cause either I go completely ballistic (which i can't keep up for more than a couple of minutes) or i'm not inspired to move at all. Still there are brilliant D'n'B tracks I like very much.
To me Psytrance is easier cause it's usually less noisy than d'n'b and i can throttle my dancing from just a little butt-moving to jumping around all over the place - usually even when the track is not that brilliant.

This is also a genre noted for its incredible 'sameness' and this hour selection was promoted as a fantatic current example of the genre.

I think that's plenty to base an opinion on. Listen to an hour of gregorian chants and you quickly get the idea there too, and I think there's a lot more variation in that.

I think D'n'B is fine if they just left out a little bit of the D. Maybe they should come up with a new genre simply called B. I love some of the weird ambient-y sounds and pads etc in D'n'B...some of it can be exceptionally musical, but often the drums ruin it for me. Always did, right back to when it was called jungle.

Why don't they release D'n'B instrumentals?

I think his point was that this giving a different name to every slightly different thing that comes along is overkill, from a linguistic standpoint.

After all, 150 years of music from all over europe is all called 'baroque' and no one (at least no one who has even a casual acquaintance with the music) gets Bach's Chorales confused with Scarlatti's Sonatas or thinks that all of it sounds like Pachelbel's canon.

I mean people can call their music whatever they want....but would be unwise to expect everyone to remember it's genre name, or assume that people who don't know said name are ignorant.

Is this how modern day electronic scene reaslly is ?
