That’s very old technology now you know, you can do way better for the same money that it used to go for. They are big smelly things with a not so intuitive work flow, half the spec they advertised is only available as plug-in cards – the pre-amps are noisy plus it has a fan. It’s a digital mixer meaning everything goes digital the moment it gets into the mixer, meaning you are at the mercy of their ad/da’s – it suffers from hum easy – for every fader you push up you increase the noise level one heck of a lot.
However it was good in its day for what it did.
Keep investigating other current products – even the later cheaper mixers have better pres.

I own one and love it and think it's one of the best bargain's out there. And I by no means think it is old technology (unless you are saying vintage, as in really cool)... I think the thing is an absolute steal for the price right now, and was a real deal when they originally came out when they were almost twice the price. Pre's are really decent, especially for the price (and I used to own a Mackie mixer with the VLZ pre's) if you don't turn them up all the way (go no more than about 8 out of 10 on the dial, which is plenty of gain for most things, that's the only spot where there is any real audible hiss, fan noise is minimal (although in the last 6 months the fan makes a funny noise for the first minute when I start it up, then it goes away) effects are nice and powerful (I only do some slight compression, a little eq, and on occasion throw in some more wild stuff like reverb and distortion, because I usually like to add effects after recording, not during), it has automated motorized faders (automate your FL studio, SX, Logic, Tracktion etc.), very nice display , and I find it very intuitive, read other reviews online and you'll find that I'm not the only one. I highly recomment it and would buy one again. Yes, in order to have digital connection you have to buy a $100 or so expansion board, but that helped to keep the initial cost down and allow for reasonably priced customized specified expansions if needed.I say go for it!
