i like music as fast as engines - makes it difficult to use effects, but hey... i'm pretty jaded too. sick of lyrics, melodies, etc...

I have to disagree with that statement. It is the road to evolution. If we were to be satisfied in stagnation, what driving force would there be to further explore and thusly find (or create) new treasures?

You're absolutely right on that. I'm 26, so classic rock really isn't that "classic" to me, it was still on the radio when I was a boy. My brother however, is 18, and he is a classic rock fanatic. As are all his friends. Not only that, but they are massively into vinyl. Their favorite thing to do is go to GoodWill, Salvation Army, and flea markets in search of long lost 60's and 70's rock albums. It's funny because his favorite rock record is actually The Wall, and all the Led Zeppelin stuff. I try to get him away from the "mainstream classic rock" when I can by giving him Edgar Winter, Van Morrison, EL&P, etc. Still, my generation was all about importing new electronic music, and his seems to be all about finding domestic dinosaur rock. Oh, the irony.

This I don't get.

I remember spending more than $20 for a Japanese pressing (pure vinyl) of The
Wall because it was so much quieter -- no surface noise and only a few clicks or pops. I started buying CDs when they came out in 1984 mostly because I hated all the noise from vinyl pressings.

My road to musical evolution starts with early Rolling Stones and prog rock and works its way up to 2006 with the new Fiona Apple album. Oh yeah, that's the other thing. I'm an album person while singles are where the money is these days.

IMHO we also expect too much from music when "great" is the primary criterion. Personally I'm grateful when I find something to sing in the shower. Doesn't need to be great, just give me a nice hook to hum, some rhythm to tap the foot to, and I'm happy. I'm aware it doesn't work this way for others, BTW.

I just like stuff that's kinda nuts, has a sense of the ridiculous in itself yet a kinda unfettered galactic ambition restrained by 14 white horses of reason... it's odd to note how when me and my friend use to make music out of aimless james (a couple of pedals sm58 and a drum machine 4 track) when we both laughed.. it was coz it was getting good, it was good, and that was somehow funny.. it was like how dare we... we're just fuckin around aren't we.. that's the kind of approach I think truly interesting music comes out of for me.. just a penny's worth for ya...

Does anyone think things are better now? With how cheap it is to make a quality album on your own there are dozens of new bands out there. And with internet distribution and word of mouth like this, it is even easier to get heard. Maybe this is also part of the problem: sorting through the crap. I also am getting turned on to old bands I never heard (Can, King Crimson, Gang of Four, Kraftwerk) when someone here or a band I like calls them an influence.

I started getting bored with what I was listening to (mostly underground hip hop, blues,jazz & the occasional 'heavier' bit of music).
I started checking out loads of netlabels & it refreshed me.
I realised that there was such a variety of different music out there that people were making purely for the love of it.
Fair enough a lot wasn't my cup of tea, but I found some gems.

Beaches and Canyons not so much my thing, Fennesz does this sort of thing much better.

Broken Ear Record I actually enjoy a lot. It reminds me of if The Books stopped caring so much and just had fun.

to be honest when i get jaded and lost in todays endless supply of new genres with one track per genre,theres nothing like "Can-tago mago"

an album that was so far ahead of its time it still is in my opinion,its time is yet to come(again)
not saying its the best album ever or even cans best album,it just has something about it that stirs up my love of all things noisy again.
if you dont own it i recommend you buy it,if you do own it dig it out,sit back and let it wash away the jaded monkey...

I dont know much about you or even glitch but are you looking for new sonic places? great atmospheric moody songs? what exactly are you seeking that you cant find?

I personally find most of my haven in atmospheric guitar-based bands like The Autumns, Radiohead, Red House Painters, Cocteau Twins, my bloody valentine...

Maybe thats all boring to you
