Be sure to let me know if it's working for you all (works here, but you never know..).
Also, if you sample any good stuff, I'd appreciate you hooking me up with some. Just pm me.

cheers.

I checked it out last night and it's very cool. It's a great idea, however I do have a few basic feature requests:

1: A different naming convention for the .wav files would be wonderful. Most file browsers sort feature will put "A#" before "A", which can be problematic. When draging large sets of samples like this to a sampler's mapping utility it causes the sharps to land where the naturals should, and vice versa. Also, since octaves split between "B" and "C", it causes A and B to be transposed an octave down from where they should be (Below C instead of above G). Mind you, you didn't do anything wrong by naming them this way as the octave SHOULD split between B and C, but good luck explaining that to file browsers. Of course, that can be corrected by hand, but changing the auto-naming would speed the process up greatly. My suggestion would be to assign a number to each note like so:

C = 1
C# = 2
D = 3
D# = 4
E = 5
F = 6
F# = 7
G = 8
G# = 9
A = 10
A# = 11
B = 12

2: Another naming request. I know the octave perameter shows up in the file name, as in, "DSI Evolver A3 v80". However, when recording multiple octaves this will cause all the A's to list together, followed by all the B's and so on. It would be easier if the octave perameter comes BEFORE the note name for organizational purposes, even if it is redundant.

3: My last naming request, honest :D The velocity should be the very first item in the name, not the last. Each velocity set is really an entire group, fully playable by itself. If the velocity isn't listed first then it will cause a lot of manual correction.

If you combine all of my naming suggestions together then you'll end up with this:

"Patch Name - Velocity - Octave - Note Number - Note Name"
Example: "DSI Evolver v80 3 4 D#3.wav"

So if we were building a patch with this setup then we could grab everything at a given velocity level and just drop it into a sampler and it would be perfectly layed out. :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

4: It would be nice to have a little one octave keyboard where you could select the notes you wanted to record. For instance, let's say I only want to record every 3rd note and stretch them to cover the gaps, why spend 3 times as long recording all the notes in between?

5: Being able to record more than one octave in a single run would be useful, but it's not really hard to do them one by one.

6: The same goes for velocity. It would be nice to be able to record more than one velocity level in a single run, but it's not a big deal.

There, that's everything I can think of. I really look forward to seeing some of these requests implemented. I'll be sure to send some samples your way if you do :D
Excuse all the blood.

What am I doing wrong?
Hi,
Are getting action on the VU meter (bottom right) when previewing?

sk
Yeah, I was. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I'm sure it's me. No time now to mess with it, and yeah, Chainer's better currently, but even Rome fell, eh?

:D

standalone works fine for me, dont think its possible in Live5 though, correct me if Im wrong

Was SC in Record or Preview mode?

SC's in no way designed to replace Chainer - Chainer is much more complete for sampling vsti's but afaik doesn't sample hardware.. So that's what SC is for :D

(I believe there's a couple $$ progs that do this out there, prolly with far more completeness, but hey..)

Dunno, depends on your host's audio & midi routing capabilities..
Piece of cake to set it up in FLStudio due to free routing of Midi ports, and obvously easy in a modular host.. anything else I don't know... untested.

If you can set it up as per the Routing diagram in the doco, no reason it shouldn't work :shrug:

Okay, so next update (soon) will have a more workable naming convention:

Code: Select all

TxBass-V64-O4-02-C#4.wav
seems to be the most logical. Will group samples by name, then velocity group, then octave, then note position/name within that group. (thanks Lawnmower..!)

Should simplify creating drag-and-drop sampler mappings.

Please correct me if I'm wrong..

Working in Live 5 for me - at least I'm getting VU meter action.

cool, lemme know if you can save out wavs correctly. Works fine here (standalone mode), hoping it does elsewhere.

Above is confirmed - working perfectly in Live 5. Thanks for this!! Really good for simply sampling VSTi's.

Very cool! I'll be sure to send some samples of my Evolver once the update is available :D

And you got the naming order perfectly. I'm looking forward to it.

Actually, I think they're more like $$$ programs! I can't remember how much Sample Robot is, but you could buy a decent host for the price if I recall correctly.

Updated, now names files as below, much easier to keymap in Kontakt :D

blech.. fair enough, they're probably waaay more advanced than this, but still..
One of these days I may make a super SC that'll do 10 octaves / velo levels all in one pass.. I'll keep it in mind.

and yes, Evolver would be sweet, thanks!
