The reason I ask what kind of guitar you are using is because all the included presets sound so much better to me with my Strat - and I'm willing to bet that most of the people who do not like FreeAmp as much are using high output pickups (my Dan'o actually has higher output than my Strat, with 4 lipstick tube pickups in series, more like a couple P-90's).

Also, my Strat is tuned standard, where as my Dano is tuned a full step low, and that might be part of the percieved "problem" too (that would be the "too much emphasis on the fundimental, not enough on the harmonics" theory posed by Rich Rath). With the Danelectro, I can clearly hear that "Wah half open" thing and some of the "boxiness" or "muddiness" others have complained about (I actually like the "boxiness"... sounds like a snarlin' small blues combo to me

) but I don't really hear either at all with the Strat.

I guess I'm just suggesting that it would be good to test with both Strat type and LP type (perhaps with high output pickups) guitars if possible.

I've tried it with humbuckers in all cases. While none of them are EMG's, there aren't weak pickups either.

From 2 humbuckers on my usual guitar to a miked acoustic balalaika it has worked fine for me.

What was your opinion of FreeAmp using humbuckers? I guess I'm especially curious how you thought the included presets sounded since a lot of people will make thier entire judgment based on their first impression (usually the included presets).

I really like FreeAmp, in fact I'd say it was my favorite amp sim, and I would just like to figure out why it works so well for some and not at all for others. Such is life I guess?

In all honesty, it sounds like an early multifx device to me. Its tremendously cool that its been released at all and its obvious that a lot of work has gone into it. I'm sure it will continue to improve.

Hmmm...I can kinda see the early multiFX thing, the flanger and phaser sound like they fell right out of a ZOOM 505.

If you are experiencing that "wah half on" thing, or sort of like a flanger that's stuck (not sweeping) - thats ZOOM 505, too. I think that one depends on what kind of pickups you have. Like I said, that is real clear with my Dan'o, but not really noticable with my Strat. You can reduce that by moving the "mic" icon to the far right. EQ thing...?

Then the "boxiness" - that's definately EQ.

To me it sounds like a multiFX into an amp (great responsiveness IMHO) then some post processing. The whole enchilada - I like it! Can't wait for FreeAmp3!!

I didn't even scratch the surface of FreeAmp2 and you're working on V3 already?!

I'm happy that I can catch up, cause at this speed, there's V5 out while I'm still messing around with V2 (as it happened with GuitarPort V2 even though V3 recently came out and I didn't even use V2.5 - well I can't play guitar anyway, so what the heck).

Guitarzan I think you hit the nail on the head with that

Most work was done with a old fender heartfield (basicaly a strat with lock down and floyd rose) also a tele and a cheapo dearmond les paul copy.
Early on when testing v1.0 at a buddies house we pluged in his PRS and it was a bit dull? then we pluged in his strat and various other guitars and the bite returned! We discussed making seperate amps for different guitar\pickup types, but I kind of dropped the ball and forgot to look more into it

So for v3.0 many different guitar\pickup types will be used to test! if it is required I will make different amp banks for single coil, humbucker pickups active and passive electronics

I think that should cure any problems and also make for a lot more variation in tones for different setups.

I love FA2, great plugin. Thanks for making it. My suggestions for FA3:

- I just can't get screaming metal tone out of it. Add some higher-gain sims.
- A ToadWorks Enveloope emulator (see:http://toadworksusa.com/el/index.html)
- A cabling matrix allowing fx reordering (this would be required for the above Enveloope effect)
- Pitch shifter/octave
- A standalone version
- A random patch generator!

You can create your own standalone version with SAVIHost (free afaik). Simply rename the executable to FreeAmp2.exe, place it in the same folder and adjust the audio settings after startup.

You could also use the standalone version of Energy XT for this purpose, it comes with a good random patch generator.

just wanted to say thank you for FreeAmp! It's number one on my lonely island plug-ins list!

I actually like the design, name and such. It's great the way it is, but if some of the suggestions here get implemented into the next version - man, it will rock!
