Hey everyone!

The Kevin Gilbert version of Kashmir that was one political bullsheat decision from being included on the Zepplin tribute album has gone missing!

This version recieved massive ammounts of airtime from 95.5 KLOS, specifically by the morning show Mark and Brian, but throughtout the day as well as people like me kept calling in to request it.

By the time I had heard that the single was included on the first 1200 copies of "Thud", I was too late. I'll bet I have #1203, or some creap like that.

I've been on the hunt for this single ever since then.

I finally tracked down Squids to this site. He can't find the Mp3. He has posted it in the past on the SR site, and would do it again if he could find it.

So now I put it to you, the loyal fans of Squids, and SR's awesome products.

Can someone post a downloadable link to any format of this revolutionary tune?

The real reason for the urgency, is that this song was playing when my college girl friend and I first... well you know. She has recently come back into my life, I'd love to surprise her. Be a hero, make me look good!

It was Squids idea to ask you all for this.

Good luck with the girl!

Oh, sorry--just re-read your post. Not downloadable, but just play it loud when she's around! :hihi:

See? I told you someone would have it. I can't believe I can't find it though. Strange. It has to be somewhere but it's not on line anymore. Good luck! There are a few other Gilbert fans on here that pop up from time to time.

Well, actually, in case you wanted to download it I did find it today. I was looking for something else and there it was! So I converted it. There's also two other cuts on the single that are different versions than what's on the album plus I am playing on them and I didn't on the album versions. Here you go:

Incidentally, here's what really happened with this Zep cover and the Enconium record. At the time Kevin was talking to Atlantic records about a distribution deal for Thud. This was just after Sheryl Crow (his ex-girlfriend that he and others co-wrote most of the hits on her first album with... and invented her whole vibe etc. long story) and Kevin had won some Grammys. So, our version of Kashmir was slated to be on "Enconium" which was a tribute record to Led Zeppelin that a lot of bands were on (Sheryl Crow in fact, STP and others). But, Kevin's deal with Atlantic fell through when he was asked by the A&R guy if he would do a duet with Sheryl on his album... clearly they were trying to cash in the Sheryl Crow success (which if you ask me is not the end of the world) but Kevin told him to shove it and that was that. No record deal and song axed from the Enconium record.

Later on we were on our way to the KLOS radio show (where we played live by the way which was pretty cool) and before were out the door Kevin asked me if he should bring the Dat of Kashmir along. I said SURE WHY NOT? I am big on outtakes and plus what else were we going to do with it? He said he wasn't sure if they'd play it or not but ok. So when we were there we brought it up and they were REALLY psyched on playing it. They loved it so much they asked to hold on to it and they played it all day long every hour! They sort of made it a mini hit locally because I remember the one of the next gigs (which was at a Virgin Mega store actually) the crowd was much larger and they went NUTS when we played Kashmir (and it really wasn't all that good live actually).

So, not knowing what to do about it the indie record company PRS (Patrick Rains who managed Wendy & Lisa, Edie Brickell and others) put it out as a free single along WITH Kevin's album Thud. It was actually crudely glued to it and when taking it off you had to be careful not to rip it and the credits (which included me for once...I've gotten the shaft on credits more times than not). I guess that's no longer available now. Hard enough to find the album I am sure at this point.

Here is another piece of interesting info for a Kevin Gilbert fan (and a Genesis fan). Nick D'Virgilio who used to play drums in Kevin's band with me (as well as on our tribute to Genesis The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway in 1994) now works with me at Sonic Reality. We did a drum library that we recorded AT Kevin's old Lawn Mower Studio (one of the best sounding drum rooms) and in that drum loop session Nick played not only a lot of Genesis grooves but also some Spock's Beard and Kevin Gilbert grooves. So, when his title is out you can pick it up and have drum tracks that sounded a bit like Kevin would have done.

May also be working on something musical relating to Kevin but it's way too early to mention. But if it comes together I think KG fans will really like it. See? I don't suck that bad.

Thanks!

Squids you are awesome man!

Old sailors beware. Squids' sea stories are at least as good as y'all's -- and they rock too.
