Hey there,
just a short question does Logic Express need an XSkey as well and what are the real drawbacks... I mean I can live with restrictions like: no surround, only presets in multipressor.. as a matter of fact I don't really need all the FX the big version has.
what's your view on that.... is anybody using it?

As far as I know LE7 doesn't require a dongle as opposed to my version (6). Go for it it's an ace bit of kit but bring your own sampler!
Unlike the Express 6 version of EXS the new one doesn't even let you make instruments anymore. It's strictly library playback.

Unfortunately Logic Express is missing a lot more than their comparison chart shows. Retrospective record, a whole bunch of very useful key commands, most of the global tracks including the very useful marker track, and most of the objects that make the environment useful.
If you're considering Logic I'd strongly recommend looking for a used copy of Logic Pro instead. You can find them for as little as $500 usually and it's worth it even without the extra plugins.

The space bar "start and stop" command missing, was enough to make me go Pro! Arghh... drove me nuts! But lots of other stuff too... I sold mine and got into Pro back when it was $395. then upgraded it to pro for $199. Ah... those were the good oldd days

yeah that's what I thought.... well I'm gonna buy me a new MacBook now all I need is a good firewire interface as well...

The Firebox is universally praised at OSXAudio... Although I love my PCR-30, there have been some negative threads about the FA66, so check over there before you buy... I've had only good experiences with Edirol stuff
