Huge is the word for it -- way bigger than it looks at first. It's not immediately obvious to beginners that a lot of the "presets" for Minimonsta really contain up to TWELVE presets, with the ability to morph among them with user-controlled speed. That Melohman patch-morphing feature is exceedingly cool. Like Hammond presets with JATO units attached.

Minimonsta is amazing! Settle for nothing less! I also contibuted to the library a bit and there are some really awesome things in there.

I'm glad to see you trying minimogue va. It really is quite nice. Also try out the Arppe 2600 from the same developer folks. Stick yer own filters on the output to get the sound you are looking for.

Yes, I have Joy Electric - though his sounds are so varied, it's hard to know which you are looking for.

this isnt about a pure minimoog emu, tbh- its getting a VERY decent analogue synth sound that I can call my workhorse... I simply want the best I can possibly get softwarewise, but due to these free programs, im really not sure about all this... after checking out minimonsta I do get the whole filter thing- what a great freaking synth! But is it worth it to purchase?

yes of course it is a thousand time worth to purchase and the extra presets that come with are ultra-kiliing bullets
you can not go wrong with it and can do a lot more that just imitate a minimoog

Only you can answer that question for yourself. All you will get here is opinions, and everybody's got a different one. They are all valid opinions, but the ultimate questions is: what exactly do you want, and how much are you willing to pay for it? It's that simple. Just continue to check out the freebies and the demo versions of all these Moog emulations, and make your own decision. Simple.

No. except if you want to pay that much for that synth. Many of us did.

i dunno... its seeming pretty killer to me, save me if im wrong people! Are there any lower cpu alternatives?

I bought it 2nd hand from ttoz (so it's NFR now). I really love the sound, even though I'm not a vintage fan (never liked synth music when I grew up in the 70's/80's. But I did not look at alternatives, it was an impulse buy in the market place (I've also had impulse buys that I did regret, but not this one).

btw. you might still be very happy with MinimogueVA, and you should also look at FabFilter (Twin) and impOSCar, different, but really great filters as well.

if it were up to me i'd go with the dongle-less one. but the idea of using the minimogueva from voltkitchen with maybe bifilter or something is another option and is free. i dont think it's fair to compare minimonsta and minimogueva though tbh, the voltkitchen synth while very great just doesn't hold a candle to the minimonsta to my ears. dunno what magic is happening but the minimonsta just sounds so yummy..

what kind of sounds are you looking for particularly ronny? can you post some MP3 audio samples? maybe you could get you setup without spending a dime?

I'd guess the difference is that the Minimonsta and of course Arturias offering are hand coded and modelled, especially the Minimonsta being modelled after Dave Spiers own Minimoog (which even he admits dont sound like your standard Minimoog, having snappier transient times) that alone justifies the cost, also the amount of man hours that went into them, i know that i worked for the best part of 6 months on my contribution to the soundlibrary, it took that long to figure out all the bleedin lfo and auxilliary envelope routings

So from where i'm standing there's a world of difference between the commercial offerings and the freebies (which are just nice graphics hooked up to some bolt on off the shelf synthedit modules, though there's nothing wrong with that just be aware that that is what you are getting) As an aside you might wanna try out Oddity ( i did half the library for that, plug..plug

) i still havent used anything that sounds as "analogue" as that, and if your in the market for buzzy fuzzyness then thats your synth, just add some tastefull fx.

gmedia retro pack is my next buy

minimoogluxus sounds much nicer than va and at only a small cpu hit. it's a good intermediary before shelling out the cash for the gmedia or arturia synths. you can learn the moog programming on the luxus and transfer your knowledge upstream with the commercial synths probably?

would you say that this is this true dave? certainly there are going to be differences but the basic capabilities of minimoogs by voltkitchen (both luxus and va) should be backwards compatible with the commercial synths?

oddity and imposcar are also bad mamojamas did you work on any presets for imposcar?
