Been cleaning my vst folder for a while, and noticed one thing: I collected all sorts of strage-glitchy freebies vst fx, but I really have very few options on some more common effects type...

Flanger

(I use the ableton live's one)
Chorus

( " " " " " ")
Phaser

(I have the Smartelectronix one)

shame on me!

What in your opinion are the free vst fx (of the above types) that stands out from others and thereby are a must have?

My favourite freeware phasers:

Antti's Phase90
Simuanalog's PS-1
Empty Square's NxtPhase

Flanger and Chorus are tougher for me since I tend to use Kjaerhus's GMO-1 almost exclusively for that function, so not that sure of others. Some I've liked in the past included mdsp's Flanger, the chorus in the xhipeffect pack, Fuzpilz' Charsiesis, and ag-work's Chorus CH-2.

for basic flanger and chorus effects it's hard to go wrong. All the ones shamann mentioned and also the free kjaerhaus classic series effects are good.

Also worth noting that those three phasers I listed have fairly distinct sounds from each other, so worth having more than one around. For some reason I like the xhip chorus more than the xhip phaser, even though I believe aciddose once mentioned they are variations on the same code.

I think that Smartelectronix one (Brams superphaser?) is excellent.

Flangers and phasers (especially freebies) seem to be most lacking in number. I really have to wonder why because they're so starkly different from plugin to plugin. No two really sound alike. Same goes for choruses although there's alot more of these. I remember even back when I had something like 800 plugins in total

I only had about 10 flangers and maybe 12 phasers. I've kept all of them. It also helps, though, to learn how you can induce similar effects using delays.

Blue Cat Audio - great, ultra-basic mod plugins for very rich or extreme FX. They were just updated recently and are now finely tunable.

vcs ultraphazer - automatable and as close as you can get to having a manually controlled phaser.

ag-works Chorus CH1/2 - fantastic sounding chorus plugins. The only trouble is that they don't seem to work well on my setup, and even then I sometimes insist.

Fuzzpilz Charsiesis - another superb sounding chorus, and easily the most tweakable in my collection.

Big Tick Hexaline - I can only describe it as a very roomy chorus

GChorus - simlple but very light, yet present chorus. It's usually the first one I try.

thanky you guys...btw debutante is right.
Sometime all this glitch/FSU madness let us forget the good old basic effects. This actually doesn't appen for reverbs and delays...

downloaded all the mentioned plugs (also the clone ensemble ones), it's gonna be an intense tensting week for my ears...

i wish i could help here... but i don't think any sim i could find would sound as nice as my TC electronics harware unit that i paid something like $200 for used and that has collected dust waiting for me to finish building a desktop studio.

back when i bought it, i think VSTs were a new idea! LOL

definately scan KVR forums, especially best of threads for the best meat and potatos effects.

some of the more popular standard effects i've seen alot of positive feedback for include;
anything by kjaerhus
nyquist, sonalksis, plp par eq 3, and gliss EQ for eqs (eqium is no longer available)
tone 2 bi-filter, scuzzphut6 & frohmage for filters
jcm900 for amp sims
endorphin, dominion, blockfish & pocket limiter for limiters and compressors
sir, ambience, glaceverb, pristinespace & oldschoolverb for reverbs

sorry i couldn't answer your actual question... but these are some pretty good standard effects from what i've gleaned so far

i have a phaser and a flanger freebie on website, too where the flanger can also be used as chorus. this is because these two effects are very much the same (signal processing wise) - the only difference is in the range of the delay-time which can be set to quite high values in my flanger.

Spot on, Mr! I'd just like to add Clone Ensemble's excellent Bass Chorus (it's not just for bass!); I use this as my primary chorus.

I'd like to suggest the entire Kjaerhus Classic series combined with the MDA vst effects series. Covers most bases.

I think Voxengo's AnalogFlux modulation effects are pretty good. For phasers, I usually look to smart electronix Phase90...
