I love your slogan: "Stop obsessing about timbre and make some music." You obviously were thinking about me when you wrote that!nuffink wrote:I see that my advertising has failed again. Oh well.
Try here Mo... www.chordspace.com
Actually, I did know about ChordSpace, but I didn't realize what it did, exactly. It sounds like it does several things. I'll check it out and see how it works with Sonar.

No offense to nuffink,
But if you're tragically oldskool like I am, you use the Hotz Midi Translator. (I've packed the atari away and run it with STeem these days).
To bad the controllers are as scarce as notrons.
I guess I'll have to check out chordspace and compare the two.

Give it a go. I'm not familiar with the Hotz but here's a brief run down of some of Playa's features...Notron User wrote:No offense to nuffink,

One finger chording from an enormous palette of chords in all 12 keys.
Chord types can be selected from your midi keyboard by use of the pitchbend wheel.
Chords can articulated by synchronised and free-running arps or by strum.
Your midi Keyboard can be freely split into chord and melody sections.
The melody section of the split automatically locks the white keys to the scale.
This isn't a straight capo type scale lock. Rather the scale dynamically locks to the chord you've just played allowing for...
user defined scales or modes to be played over the chord. e.g. If you strike a minor chord you can choose to play Dorian, Aolian, Phrygian or a Blues scale over it. The same principle applies to all chord types; Major, Dominant, Diminished, Half diminished, Altered... You name it it's in there.
And best of all, all this complexity is hidden. You play the right mode over the right chord without even thinking about it. As if you've been studying theory all your life. It's spooky and it's fun.

I have both BIAB and Jammer though I never use them as they don't play MY stuff.
So I made my own plug, which has no GUI, as I trigger the stuff from the track, easier for editing.
Cool tool for song writing or for limited/lazy musicians, like me
Here's a little demo, first part, original play, and second part once I apply the chords/scales, stuff.
http://homepage.hispeed.ch/mbncp/downlo ... r-test.mp3
And a screen shot of the project (cubase):
http://homepage.hispeed.ch/mbncp/downlo ... r-test.jpg
The piano and bass where recorded before applying the chords, but the guitar (yamaha EZ-AG) was recorded after, and it was just playing pretty much anything (only the rhythm and relative position is of importance), that's why it's not in the first part.
Supports up to 16 channels, though scales, chords, key, root, transpose can be shared among different channels if wanted, or each channel having it's own settings.

Sounds good, but as usual I left out something crucial. I do a lot of my composing in a grid and seldom use a keyboard. Can ChordSpace (or anything else) work with the grid (in Sonar) to not let me choose a note that is outside my chosen scale?nuffink wrote:Give it a go. Not Playa, but you might want to look at the original (and free) ChordSpace...Mo Verdigast wrote:Sounds good, but as usual I left out something crucial. which allows you to click your chords in. I don't know of any sequencer with scale lock. I keep expecting Charlie Steinberg to drop me an e-mail but I guess he's busy.

Sorry to be a thicko, but I couldn't quite figure out how to use it. I can install it, but I'm not sure how to make the original ChordSpace work. I think I need a diagram of what is connected to what. I understand that you install it as a VST synth, but what are the outputs and inputs relative to my sound system and another synth. Where is the piano roll? In the track with ChordSpace or with the other synth?nuffink wrote:Not Playa, but you might want to look at the original (and free) ChordSpace...Mo Verdigast wrote:Sounds good, but as usual I left out something crucial. Try this... http://www.chordspace.com/Playa/SonarInstall.htm
It's for Playa but the same routing applies.

I remember that the particular Amiga tracker I liked best (Face The Music, an 8-voice tracker from Germany, I think) had a feature like that. I loved it.

Notrons have a force to scale feature.
ableton live has an internal midi plug that will also force to scale.
