I notice that there is some confusion regarding the general function of the Pushtech EQ entry. I believe this is primarily due to an unfamiliarity with the the way the original Pulse Technologies EQ filters worked. Understandable really, as there is nothing in the PushTech manual that attempts to educate you on some of its obvious similarities to the hardware. The following is a brief explanation from another thread, as well as some suggested configurations that attempt to emulate a few common Pultec settings so you can hear/study the resulting shapes. Hope these examples help clear things up a bit.
kilroy wrote:On the Pultec EQ, when both adding and subtracting gain at the chosen frequency you were able to quickly contour a scooped mid shape. It was a popular "clean" setting because the broad dip through the middle "enhanced" the program clarity by slightly reducing an often crowded frequency range, whilst also tipping up a bit of low end.
Try setting Pull to 13db and Push to 18db with the low frequency at 100hz. This is fairly close to the classic Pultec clean shape...though without the original character of the Pultec's passive filter circuit topology. To add a broad gentle rise to the top end of the above, set the hi-freq to 10khz, with Push to 3db and bandwidth at "0". Leave hi-freq Pull at "0". Now you have a close approximation of another classic Pultec shape. The slopes on the filters at these settings are very low and broad.
The Pultec could also do a nice job on heavy guitar dominant mixes where the "bite" regions got to be a bit much on the ears at times. Try setting the low band to 80hz with a Pull of 7.5db and a Push of 14db. Set hi-freq at 16khz with a Push of 8db and a Pull of 4db. Set hi-freq bandwidth to 8 and hi-freq atten to 20khz. This carves a shape that takes some of the screech and clank out of the hi mids, whilst retaining much of the mid range torque. It also kicks the low end for extra whomp, and gooses the highs above 5khz for extra cut.
Note that none of the other mid range filters on this plugin are are used for these shapes. The original Pultec EQ had no such filters.

i voted based on three things. quality, generosity, and usability,
my list is,
1 pushtec. this thing is extremely good, and very free. the developer put no restrictions or cutdowns in making this.
2 eq22 also very good. especialy in the highs.
3 anna. though anna is still very buggy, when it becomes stable its gonna be amazing and hopefuly still free.
4 cubix i realy like how even though pychic modulation is a well known name here, he basicly gave people a cutdown version of cortex.
5 triple cheese. sounds very good. is basicly a pluck synth with a few features from his commercial line. however, being that this freeware is from a high quality name and knowning the the other high quality products this developer has created, imo and this is only my opinion, triple cheese is a 'good enough' 'cant make it too good we are a high end company' kind of plugin.
looking at the synth itself its basicly a simple square/saw plucky synth. the fact that the developer substituted the basic wave shapes, saw, square/pulse, tri, noise ect for waves that arent very musical as far as usability is not very pleasing. he did however include an lfo and other little things from his commercial line. but, had he been genrous enough to use the normal traditional waves instead of these rather very limited waveforms, i would have voted tiple cheese first place.

----I was digging Choralozoide, one I haven't seen mentioned much. It woulda been cool if it was stereo, but sometimes that can't be done for whaever reason. Anyways, time's running out, gotta go try a few more of the entries before voting day.

because, if tc had all the waves i mentioned, plus a noise wave, and all the other stuff lfo ect,blaster78 wrote:who wants normal.... there's loads of normal, tc however is an extremely interesting synth...hitman8081 wrote:had he been genrous enough to use the normal traditional waves instead of these rather very limited waveforms, i would have voted tiple cheese first place.

maybe I'm mistaken (haven't been able to devote a whole lot of time to playing with other devs' entries), but from what I heard from playing it isn't TC powered basically by noise being run through keyboard-tunable comb filters? A lot of what it does reminds me of what AAS's String Studio does, but less specialized.

combfilters yes. but, from the triple chese pdf, "i think its a great sounding plugin, even though its free and not to capable" i already said its sounds great and as i pointed out, not to capableChris Roberson wrote:maybe I'm mistaken (haven't been able to devote a whole lot of time to playing with other devs' entries), but from what I heard from playing it isn't TC powered basically by noise being run through keyboard-tunable comb filters? all jokes aside, pushtec and eq22 both are amazing and generous freebies. however, i dont blame uhe for not wanting to ceate something that would put his commercial line in jeopardy. basicly, uhe was generous enough to give us a small taste of his great commercial line. also remember that the developers of pushtec and eq22 are the new guys on the block. and since first impressions are the most important, and there trying to make an impression, there not going to put out garbage

heheh, I was kinda trying to dance around saying that it wasn't too capable or useful, but I guess I'm not alone with that?
Either way, I know it has many fans, so power to him. Although I hope the fan base isn't based firmly from namesake....

----Well, Triple Cheese is no Zebra, but it's cool for what it does, low cpu, some options, a guy could do worse eh.
----I finally got around to trying Collide & Play, easier to run/use that I was thinking (dreading, sorry ha-ha). Tough to say how overly "useful" it would/will be, but a very interesting little program. I did manage to stick some one shots in the sounds folder and at least get that far with it, while randomly clicking and holding keys down to make well, random things happen ha-ha.
If anyone is/was like me, and kinda not into trying it out cause it's a stand-alone, well, it worked totally fine here, 2 seconds to install, and just use the *Esc* key to close it when yer done. And it's definitely worth 10-15 minutes of your time if nothing else, it's almost like a cheesy but musical tetris, with no rules or something weird ha-ha.
