I'd like to second this initial posts' question -- this post from July 2005 -- is Tron v2 still coming?

I have jumped in and read this thread multiple times in the last, uh... year and a half... I won't bother this time, so if it's been answered recently, I apologize. But just wondering if this is also a product that will probably be dropped (like I think I read about Studiophonik), or if this one is still in the pipeline.

I have volume 1, and I have to say, it is just about the most rocking collection I have, seriously. I use it so much.

Well, the good news is that Studiophonik isn't exactly dropped either. It may have a new life, just a little bit different than originally announced but I may have found a way to keep it affordable too. We'll just have to see on that... but sooner than you think!

Squids Tron Vol. 2 IS coming and there's even something else coming along the same lines as well... so TWO products in the quirky keyboard category to look forward to this year... and in the first half of this year. Exactly when I don't know yet but I will let everyone know when it is getting real close.

GREAT -- thanks for the update...

You're such a tease!

Slightly OT: I finally get to see Jon Brion perform - he's coming to Chicago in March!

Oh great! If you talk to him tell him I say hi. I was hoping I'd see him next week in LA. I am going out there for a Grammy party at Ocean Way. Our new partner Allen Sides, the owner of Ocean Way was nominated for one. Must be nice huh?

Anyway, I found an artist that some of you guys may like. Her name is Eleni Mandell. She's worked with Jon Brion (maybe even on this record it sounds like). Check it out: http://www.myspace.com/elenimandell Kind of Fiona Apple meets Suzanne Vega meets... Leonard Cohen or Tom Waits? Lots of quirky sounds in there too.

I got very excited when I was browsing eSoundz and found there's already a page up on eSoundz for Volume 2 - http://www.esoundz.com/details.php?ProductID=1494 but there's no listing of what's on it and the description is exactly the same as Volume 1 (right down to the Squids quote). In the words of Mr. Petty - "The waaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiting is the hardest part."

That's just a template page with the first info just copied over. It isn't supposed to show up in the search yet but it's there so at least you can see what the cover looks like! ;) We'll have it available soon at least in ST format. There are also plans to do both vol. 1 & 2 in Reason and other formats too though.

Any chance of getting a preliminary patch/instrument list? I realize you're probably finding new samples to add all the time.

Didn't get to talk to him, but man, what a show. The guy can play any song he's ever heard before - in any style too. It's almost savant-like! In addition to a bunch of his own songs, he did a mash-up of Nirvana's "Lithium" with Dylan's "Don't Think Twice It's Alright", on a Fender Bass VI no less. There was also an instrumental version of AC/DC's "Back In Black" played on piano in the style of Fats Waller. And a Prince medley... crazy.

For those who've never had the good fortune to see him live, it's a wild night. He works without a set list and uses some looping machines to basically multi-track a song on stage. He'll go pound out a couple minutes of drums on an old Ludwig kit, loop that, head over the piano (or celeste or Chamberlin), then loop that, then it's over to his guitar through an octave pedal (and usually a fuzz) for a bass line. Then he plays guitar and sings live over the backing track he just created.

Just mind blowing and a whole lot of fun. He did another "secret" show two days later at a small club that I couldn't make it to. One of my friends who did go ended up on stage playing drums and he's still floating in the clouds from it.

PS - Watched the Crowded House webcast last night. Mark Hart employed some Mellotron/Chamberlin samples throughout the set. They played for two and a half hours in the webcast - live from Real World Studios in Bath, UK.

PPS - Squids Tron 2, where are you? I've got some tracks to do now... (sung to the tune of "The Theme From Scooby Doo").

Hey Dave,

You may remember that I was puzzled about Mellotrons. After working with some of the SS2 samples in my music and enjoying some collaborations with those who love 'em to death I am finally beginning to hear what people like about. So there is hope for me.

No, seriously....When is vol. 2 coming out?
It seems like the announcement of it was over a year ago, and now there's a pre-order page at esoundz, but....uh...
...an estimate? 8)

Woah. Thanks, K-Slash, for the link to Sonik Instruments (including Studiophonik!)

Not exactly. SampleTron sounds like Squids' Tron Collection V1 with it's own integrated SampleTank front end with a few new things.

I hope I don't have to buy SampleTron just to get the content that was headed for Volume 2. If I do, I hope that there's a reasonably priced crossgrade for STCV1 owners.

So here are my questions for Squids:
How much SampleTron content is not found in Squids' Tron Collection Volume 1?
Will there still be a Tron Collection Volume 2 with those sounds (and others you mentioned as being in V2 like the Clavioline)?
Does SampleTron contain ALL the samples found in Squids' Tron Collection Volume 1 (Remember some non-Trons came with V1 - like Jon Brion's harmonium or the Jaymar toy piano)?
SampleTank will load SampleTron sounds, but is the reverse true?
Universal Binary?
Price/crossgrade/upgrade?

EDIT: Found that all are VST/AU/RTAS or stand-alone.
New things in SampleTron (based on the list): Stylophone, Roland VP330 choir, 360 Systems Digital Tron, Mellotron Powerhouse, Chamberlin Rhythmate
