aciddose needs to put in the dice code soon, then it will be.
also good randomisation could be a game = the sum of the parameters values could be a score and players take turns. but xhip is never going to compare to professional games, unless aciddose adds images of pretty women and guns.

Hey, that's what I like to do in Reaper and it's really useful if you want to really hear things, not see it, especially with EQ's and Compressors :x. Try it sometimes .

A good tip for many, no doubt. Graphics and shiny objects used to be distracting to me as well, but I'm completely over the placebo phase. Nowadays I prefer ergonomics first and foremost; they're all tools after all.

but I do share the mutual hatred for GUI wood handles and vintage metal brushing with many people. :hihi:

And no matter how good the plugin may sound like, if I see any flashing tubes on a GUI, it goes straight to the bin. :tantrum:

Bleh! Flashing tubes ROCK! It's sounds SOOOO much better! Bring it on!

Cheers!

This is the best one so far, I just love it, so simple and perfect

I already told my personal tastes when we talked about a xhip gui made by a third person.
As the discussion turns out like flaming, i thought i could be better to keep quiet, but on the other hand, as someone already did some very good job that i like a lot, and that the latest gui suggestion turned to be nearly the opposite direction of what Gsoto did, i will bring my voice :

+ 5 for clean, modern, plain design
-50 for fake woods, fake shadows and moogish knobs.

I don't want to bring back any flames, as the thread was quite a chilly place, but this discussion (pro or con fake wood, fake 3D) had already taken place some months ago in one of the 100 pages dedicated to Xhip, and i think i remember most of the people agreed to say that in some cases (1:1 emulation of vintage hardware) wood panels and moogish knobs or screws made in blender were Ok, but in the particular case of Xhip (something quite unique), it coudl be a better idea to find something a little bit more original than simulating circa 70 synths.

I have nothing against fake woods and design attempts (sometimes i also try to do some), but i think if the KVR search tool had a clickable option to select "do you wish fake 3D wood panel in your GUI ?", it would just make the database give an answer of 489871868716871496148 synths before imploding and morphing into a supernova.

Ditto sinkmusic for clean and modern GUI with less "sparkles" ;-). however, I think Aciddose's decision to make XHip skinnable is very wise because people have so different tastes it's incredible.

Maybe someone would like to have some tubes somewhere for some reason... you really never know :hihi:, but as long as mine looks minimal I cannot care less.

the white one just kills my eyes.....i wouldnt be able to use it at all.

Kingston, no offense, but it's perfectly allright for people to dislike your design without them being windows 3.1-using lunatics, you know? ;)
I personally agree with the sentiment that bumpmaps and 'real' textures are right up there with lens-flares and comic sans, but that's an opinion. Mine, in fact. That's the good thing behind a skinning system though, it allows people with drastically different opinions to use the same softsynth without having to rub out their eyes with sandpaper.
Bonus!

can you guys just link the image instead of quoting it? it fills up the page too quickly

"what i meant is could you use this bitmap as a background, or will your panels be moveable?"

actually, it is faster to apply the texture and then draw the shadows than it is to use a huge background bitmap. so, i can have movable windows AND fancy bitmap/shadow effects.in order to accomplish it quickly, the window would have to contain the shadow, then draw that section of background and apply the shadow over top of the full background bitmap. that way, when redrawing a window, only the window requires the redraw, not the whole screen (and then all windows in it)

no need to argue back and forth about shadows, textures, color schemes, fonts, wood panels, or anything like that. all that stuff is user configurable!
