Hi everyone.

Is anybody running Poly-Ana 0.40 on an AMD XP 2700? If so, does it work OK?

We've got a very strange bug report from a customer who says 0.40 is working fine on his XP 2700, except it crashes his host when he moves the toggle switches. Apparently all other functions are fine, it plays OK and all the other types of knobs and switches work as expected. Only moving the toggle switches causes the crash.

This is a VERY strange bug report. He says he didn't experience this problem in 0.30 and nothing was touched in the GUI code since the 0.30 release.

I'm still waiting on some more detailed test results from the customer, but thought I'd throw this out there. Anybody seen anything like this? I don't know if his CPU is an issue or not but if I could get a confirmation from a user on an AMD XP 2700 CPU that would help eliminate that possibility.

Thanks!

Found and fixed that user's issue. It probably did have to do with his CPU type, will be fixed for everyone in the next update.

A little sneak peek of something new in 0.90 (coming any day now). In the synth version of Poly-Ana, the formerly unused INPUT-1 and INPUT-2 buttons on the filters now allow you to apply keyboard tracking from 2 different MIDI channels. So the filters can be tracked to a different melody than the one that the synth is playing. They track monophonically, always taking the last note/pitch bend value from each additional channel.

(In the upcoming Poly-AnaFX version, these filter INPUT buttons are used to run the 2 audio input channels into the filters. As the synth-only version has no inputs they didn't have any function, until now.)

This is just a quick little demo of it, two different arpeggio lines modulating the two filters in stereo while the main track plays chords. This is a lot like what you can do on some classic modular synths and their software clones with analog sequencer modules. You can send a sequence to the filters independently of the oscillators. But in our case, rather than reinvent the sequencer (which your host probably does quite well already), the idea is to allow 2 additional keyboard inputs on alternate MIDI channels to be used as modulators for the filters.

These arpeggios sound a lot like stepped LFO effects but it can get a lot more interesting than this. Those other MIDI tracks could be whatever melody you want to sequence! Doesn't have to repeat or follow any particular rythmic pattern. Can't wait to hear what the experimenters among you will make of this feature.

I've taken the plunge and am now serving under the admiral. So how does one update an already installed .40 version when the .90 comes out? Do you email update links automatically?

Post

No, you need to grab the updated version on AQ site.
Just overwrite the installed version with the newer one.

I've sworn to support the Admiral as well. Happy I've climbed on board. One very strange problem: with the latest addition, I've suddenly lost use of the "Huck Finn" preset. I really liked that preset...any other folks suffering from the loss or are the angry synth gods smiting me for some indiscrete, unconscious act of hubris. Is there a way to reinstall the preset bank? Do I need a ritual exorcism? Thanks.

Yes calex, just install the new updates as they come out. We're not currently emailing out customers with updates (we will once the 1.x series begins but it's a bit too much during beta) but you can subscribe to receive updates through KVR here:

mayan, welcome to the Admiralty! Not sure what would have caused Huck Finn to disappear. Are you possibly loading a project where you previously overwrote that program? Inserting a new instance of Poly-Ana into your project should reset all the programs to their presets.

And when you say you "lost the use" of the preset... are you saying you see the sound name come up but it makes no sound? Or the wrong sound? Anyway, I'm sure it's just some thing as the Huck Finn preset is definitely still in there. :) Keep sending me descriptions of your problem and I'm sure we can work through it.

Working on the final polishing and preset programming for 0.90. Expect it out early next week!

Extra Filter sounds really nice !

Yes, AQ...it was very strange. The preset name appears in the list but I can't figure out a way to make it sound. I'm in no hurry and will probably wait for the new kid on the block to appear...I'm not fretting, I love the Beast and for the time being I'm having a great time tweaking for no purpose whatsoever except getting to know it and to revel in the soundbox of sound. Being deprived of Huck just induces me to explore other stuff.

Curious, does the Bassmaster patch work? It's just like Huck... 4 slightly detuned voices playing in unison.

AQ ->I'll let you know upon being sprung from wage-slavery in but a few hours.

Hi all,

Sorry the 0.90 release is taking so long to get out. It's been done for some time now but I'm still adding presets. I want to fill up all 128 program slots with GOOD sounds and it's slow work. Been spending up to an hour on some sounds so you can imagine how long 128 take. Still, hope to be through the slog by tomorrow and get her out for Valentine's day.

If you'd like to help and have some favorite Poly-Ana patches you've made that you'd like to see included in the product then go ahead and send 'em in, you have about 24 hours. Can't credit or otherwise reward you for them, but you'll know they're your sounds. :)

Email your .pap or .pab files to aq(AT)admiralquality.com

Cheers.

Pro Sounds in the place for a soundset maybe ?

will there be an extended demo for 0.9? i didn't have time to make up my mind or program anything before my beta demo expired... and the presets didn't seem to show it off too much, but i definitely liked the sound...
