HI
I have several ReFx products that I no longer use and I would probably sell them (I bought them BEFORE there was any 'restriction' in place): yet now I must accept a change of stance from the developer!
'liars&ashes' point is quite fair: how can this 'no resale' stance be applied to people who purchased goods prior to the change in licence policy?
I have become quite disappointed with various aspects of using software of late - although I admit that it often revolves around my own purchasing decisions not being thought through!
But, what with C/R, dongles, NFR, licence transfer fees (look at the Spectrasonics fees!), not being able to sell a purchase for 6 months and goodness knows what else - I do wonder ... not to mention upgrade fees on what are sometimes cosmetic changes and bug-fixes ... worse still: how often does the purchased software turn out to be bug ridden which results in the consumer having to wait for weeks/months for it to become usable.
I could go to a place with this discussion that invariably causes outrage - but let's just end on the thought that given the above 'inconveniences' is it a wonder that some people look elsewhere to source their software!

I too have been unhappy with some software purchases lately... that is why for two months now I have been waiting to buy a whole new pack of mixing tools, and I am probably gonna think about it for another few months..... but you are so right about some of this expensive software being crAp full of bugs
I used to think the internet was going to unite mankind. Now I realize the internet is perhaps mankinds greatest wasteland of bickering, greed, and narrow minds. " And we all shine on, " Imagine that.

What do you mean "not around here anymore"?

Have you guys considered that two companies might have DIFFERENT CONTRACTS with ShareIt? Maybe ShareIt takes a 10% cut out of every sale by default, but if you give them exclusive distribution rights, they only take 5%, but disallow transfers of licenses. It's really not that far of a stretch.

Another thing to keep in mind is that some companies use the built in Shareit license code generator and SDK, and others use their own licensing system, like EXT. The dev sends you a license on their own.
Does ReFX give you a license right with your order, through Shareit? This might be the case where Shareit doesn't allow the transfer.

Hi,
We at 4Front allow free-of-charge license transfers. The only limitation however is that a license can only be transferred one time each 6 months to avoid abuse.
One buys (the right to use) a product and thus one should be able to sell it/give it away like any object somebody might buy.
In case of the starting post of this thread. If your license agreement says you can transfer your license, then you are allowed to do so. The only difference is if you bought an update which came with a different license agreement. Basically the L.A. is some form of contract between you the customer and the vendor. Because of this new license agreements only apply to new 'purchases/updates', if accepted and a product was activated/installed/etc.
Additionally a license agreement/EULA is never above the law. So where I live in the Netherlands e.g. Microsoft's EULA can be mostly ignored.

The problem is none of this NONE of it actually stops piracy. People who are gonna download warez will no matter how cheap a product is and people who are gonna buy software will buy it if they feel it is reasonably priced or do without. There are a ton of products out there I would love to have but just cannot afford so you live without. Pirates will pirate no matter what the software companies do. Does that mean I am for the removal of all copy protection. Not at all. But I honestly feel like if the company would have a reasonably priced product they would end up selling more copies than they would pirate. But hey that is just me and what could I possibly know. The trend I am seeing though is the harder the companies make the copy protection or the no resale restrictions the less product they actually sell. Seen a ton of posts even on this board that essentially say.."Can't resell that so I am not gonna buy it"

Pro-Sounds Allows Free-of-Charge License transfers too...simply because we're cool guys, like the folks at 4front. You just have to ask permission first (I can't think of a time I haven't granted it).

I can't think of a really appropriate place for it either, so I'll put it in Everything Else (Music related) and leave a phantom topic in Market Place pointing to EE.b-pole wrote:Perhaps I am in the wrong topic-section but I was not shure where to post it.
And for the record: License transfer on my Transparency Preserver, as well as my various sample libraries, is handled without monetary cost. True -- both buyer and seller must perform a comical, mildly humiliating dance of my choice and post videos on YouTube before I will allow the transfer to take place, but frankly it really is best to hold onto priceless heirlooms of this quality, so it's for your own good if you don't sell. And if you do go ahead and transfer the license, the entertainment world gets more program material and that can't possibly be a bad thing.
Funny thing... nobody's ever asked about license transfers. Go figure.

Not true. Only in certain countries are ALL license transfers prohibited. It's entirely in the law in most places, as long as it's within reason. But really, it's more up to where you live.thorau wrote:As I wrote earlier no one can prohibit licence transfers. There are some rules to observe, but you can sell every software basically. Don't let them drive you mad!
