Next bass I buy will be a Precision, Fender or Squier.

I have a sort of mystical experience listening to P basses.

There's enough clunk to make it razz, yet the bottom is pure and belly-filling.

Here's a pic for others to see. May be the wrong colour, but ... you get the idea

Meanwhile there are many Ibanez SDGR's .. but this one is mine!

8 strings bass? You have soundclips of how that sounds?
No, that wasn't me.

Neat that they put a jazz pickup on there, too, Kev. Surprising they still call it a "Precision" bass, though!

Try to get your hand on a Vintage Modified by Squier, in my experience much better than the MIM counterpart (I returned 2 MIM Jazz fretless for various build issues, while I've thrown the box of my VM out so it's staying)and absolutely nothing to do with the standard Squier fare.

Nothing can match a P when played loud.

Been doing a lot of recording with it recently for some new C&TC tracks; I'll try to knock out a couple of quick examples to hear this weekend. :)

The octave tuning in really neat in that it manages to sound like a bass and a guitar playing lines simultaneously, or a 12-string guitar shifted down into the bass range, in that you can get a really nice, ringing chime-y kind of tone out of it (think of the intro and outro to Pearl Jam's "Jeremy" and you get the idea, though I believe that was actually done on a 12-string bass which adds a unison string to the root/octave pair).

I find myself playing a lot of guitar-ish parts with open ringing strings along with the fretted notes, as well as tapped harmonics and such. It's great live with my cover-band trio too, as it really makes us sound a lot larger than we actually are. :D

I was kinda thinking that too, as the neck taper looks more like a Jazz to me.

My fretless is Jazz Bass Special that looks very similar: Precision style body and headstock, tapered jazz style fretboard and the P/J pickup combination.

I bought this about 6-8 months ago- love it with flatwounds on it:

I like to dial in the P-Bass Pickup 100% and then add about 15-25% of the Jbass pickup for a touch of bite. I didnt really even like playing bass until I got this one.

I bought a fine Mexican strat, 250 US, professionally set up, which saves me a lotta suffering. hadda get it when a crackhead or some deal stole my previous strat, which was Roland-ready (but never would stay in tune).
it's always something. if it's not one thing, it's another.

I dunno really, indie pop/rock/electronic/classic rock ish. I just like the heft that they give me, and since Im not a very technical player, let me move along the fretboard alot easier. They sound pretty much like a sine wave fingered, and get some growl when I play them picked.

If you want to hear an example of it, you can hear my tune in the love portland video on this page...
