Yeah, there's some quality beats on there, but you definitely want to offer pre-fx versions of some of them. Far too much shaped reverb used on some sounds that would be hard to gel with other peoples mixes. Also, the overdrive or distortion you're using is just a bit too prevalent, almost every clip has a similar overdriven sound. As snooky pointed out, alot of it does sound dated, but it shouldn't be hard for another half producer to take your loops and modernize them in the context of their song.

Not my cup'o'tea, but I'm a house boy and most of this stuff is too proggy or tarncetastic  Saying that though, it's some quality stuff, really good range of sounds that I think a load of prog-heads and trancers would be into!

You Uk, your loops sound like you're from the Uk, I prefer these to the vengeance loops as they are not so over processed.

Absolutely mate, from sunny Staffordshire! Well, not so sunny Staffordshire should I say, lol.

These loops are actually processed pretty heavily, but what I try to do is keep the processing to 'sound shaping' if that makes sense. Like, I want to make treatments that result in REAL sounding samples, as much as possibly at least.

Like for instance, a comb filter bank can make a drum hit sound like a metalic clank. Or a sharp filter env can make something sound much clearer and plastic'y. Distortion can bring out upper harmonics and almost act like a top end enhancer on hats and stuff!

I did a lot of that kind of treatment for these loops. But I know what you mean, some just chuck a flange, a compressor and a reverb on.

Code: Select all

I've nicked the Bd from the first demo you put up by the way he he killer kick drum.
Nic away, my good man! You get the kicks (insolation) to all of those loops anyway. Iv spent so much time coming up with kick drum techniques. So there are quite a variety of sounds.

Hey, 'Jon the Dentist' sounds very familiar. Like I recognise that name from somewhere. Sounds like a muppet though if he'd swap a synth for a kick sample though, lol. But then again, that is how some of these guys work isnt it - they sample a set of sounds that they like, and then thats it, for ever!

I guess thats the difference between trained producers / engineers and DJ's with a sample.

PS. Wow, didnt that sound snotty?! lol

tee_bee my comment wasnt aimed at you.

Anyways, your beats are fine. I've listened to some techno tracks by BT and yours are almost like that. BT's just sounds "thicker" or "richer" i think. what are your sources for the samples? :D

Have you tried it yet?

Is it much different the first player?

Im just downloading your demo now.

I haven't tried it yet the new player, but they assure me everything Kontakt 2 can do the player can, although at the last min they told me I couldn't use any presets with the convolutions in Kontakt 2...so I had to bloody hire in some good fx boxes lexicon etc and make some.

Has been a long year I can tell you editing and looping all those samples by hand.
Tell me about! Who ever said that making samples is easy? lol. You have to be quite the mole, right?

I listened to your demo btw, sounds very cool! I wish I had some of those cool synths you used.

My studio is all guitars. For some reason I only seemed to be able to justify spending such cash on nice axes. I really need some nice synths though.

Cool, thanks for the feedback!

Hehe, tiz a little techy I admit. I kind of lost interest in house music. For funky stuff, Im more into acid jazz and funk. You just cant have that kind of music without a live drummer imo.

But there are some cool house tracks about though. Just not enough to prize me away from my techy roots, hehe.

Actually, I was refering to BT's new album. He mixed up glitch stuff with ambient and acoustic styles... it was really a unique album, so cool!

My sources for samples are MANY.

Some of the hats and stuff are just drum machines, tweaked, layered, etc. Some are vinyl. It really depends. Usually they are hybrids that have been combined and messed with.

Like, when I make a kick, often I just take an 'attack' from a kick I have, then mix it with the decay of another. Then EQ it and mix with another one. Stuff like that.

I really like mixing a sampled kick with a pure synthesis sine drop. That way you can get a the character of the sample with the clarity and big bottom end of the synth.

But I pretty much use samples from my library that Iv been making for my tracks for years. Most of them are derivatives of derivatives of derivatives!

Some of the percussion is live stuff. Pots and pans, shakers, cymbals, etc.

Oh, btw, I rather hope they dont modernise the dated sounding loops. I made them to sound that way!

There are plenty of squeaky clean, supery dupery hifi beats on their too. But I do love a bit of that old school dirt. I must admit, for dance music I do love a 909 and some vinyl! Yep, its over used (to say the least), but you do find a lot of producers still using this kind of stuff, just in a retro context.

A noteworthy example would be Push. Virtually all of his last album was 909 and 808. I liked that sound alot!

I just had a listen to the newer loops you put up - better stuff for sure!

however, if I may, it sounds dated only in a dated and not "cool" way...that said, the rythms themselfs are very solid and usable in their own right!

there's no accounting for taste ;)

Hmmm, perhaps Im just old fashioned, lol.

But in the good ole days...

I'm curious if there's any news about this pack. It was discussed for a couple of days, and then simply vanished off the corner off the boards.
