Hello Guys,

I'm desperatly looking for a very simple REX files player. Not a VST-i ! Juste a simple player, like a wav player, just to be able to listen to rex samples very fast, by double-clicking on them.

Do you know if this exists ? I couldn't fing it anywhere on search engines. Even some kind of Rex Winamp plugin would do the trick.

I've been using Stylus RMX, but I'd love to find something less complicated - I simply want to be able to map a REX loop to each key of my keyboard, and for it to sync to host tempo.

Does anyone know of anything like that?

Hmmm, none of those really seem like what I'm after.

* Shortcircuit is complex, and seems like more of a sampler/editor than a simple player
* Satellite needs to be the pro version to use REX files, and I can't afford it
* Phatmatik doesn't map each REX to a key, or does it? I'll have a look at the pro version

I simply want a VST which will allow me to map a REX drum groove to a specific key, so I can spread 88 grooves over 88 keys. It'd need to be able to sync to host tempo, as I said above, but those are pretty much the only features I need...

Watto, I know of nothing that does what you are talking about with rex2 files, but many samplers will do exactly what you are talking about with wave files. This is in fact how I did that polyrhythmic thingie with the abrupt changes that I posted in the cafe last week, using only sfz, which not only allows syncing to host tempo, but even lets you set things up to play the loop on the next '1' (i.e., you can set it up so that if you hit the key on, say, the 'and' of 3 it will still start playing the loop on the first beat of the next measure).

If no one comes up with anything better, I would strongly suggest getting ReCycle and using the export function to make wave files out of the rex2 files. The great thing about this is that the exported waves are sample accurate, so they will sync with anything else at the same tempo.

But doesn't Stylus allow wave exports? For the price I would certainly hope so!

The next version of LiveSlice will do this. Rex import is already implemented and in beta testing. Currently I'm working on improving the file browser, add drag'n'drop support, selecting / loading multiple loops and stuff that'll make LiveSlice a very capable rex player. The midi features you requested are already there

herodotus, the problem is I have loops that I want to play at any tempo I choose, so they HAVE to stay REX files. Nope, RMX doesn't have WAV export, but that's a non-issue in this case, as I'm talking about loops I made myself, with a drummer friend of mine

ohm, can you send me a pm when you've implemented it? I'll certainly try it. I'm just hoping LiveSlice isn't too complicated - I want something very simple, if possible. If it IS pretty complex, could you make me a special version with just the features I'm after?

I considered this actually. A version without the editing features that'll just layer the loops via midi in sync with the host. Hopefully I'll manage to keep the loop import simple so it's not really needed. I have plans to improve midi learn so that'll be simpler too. The thing is: initially you just want to layer some rex files - THEN you suddenly feel a strong need to move that snare a bit, create a break, reverse that other snare, tweak that decay, double that bassdrum, etc. and then you'd really wish you'd used LiveSlice in the first place

Hello !
I launched this topic about 6 months ago, but it seems there no answer to my original question/request...

Let's try to explain it again : I'm just looking for a simple rex player (no editor, sequencer, synth...), but just like a simple wav player, to be able to play/listen to rex files when I click on them when browsing rex folders...

Any idea ?

It's a VSTi i'm afraid, but AMG's ONE/Solois by far the simplest and cheapest thing going.

I love stylus rmx, that would be a good feature for an update, but afaik it doesn't do that now... It's an awesome program... but it is cumbersome to bring rex files into it...

Thanks Arkadin... but yes it's a vst-i. I'm very suprised that this little stand alone rex player does not exists... Any developer out there ?

Please do! You'd have an instant sale, I'd say (as long as it works well with Receptor).
